MEMo
DATE : May 29, 1998
TO . Park and Recreation Committee
FROM : Jim March
RE . LaMotte Park
****************************************************************
It is time for the Park and Recreation Committee to officially
request the City Council to allow that authorization be made for
the City Engineer to proceed with plans and specifications for
LaMotte Park. I would like to see this project bid mid-summer.
If the bids are favorable, we should expect to see construction
beginning late summer. The base course for the parking lot
should be installed this year.
I have asked Dave Nyberg to be present at the June 3 meeting. we
have had meetings on site with Kate Drewry from the Rice Creek
Watershed District. It appears we may be able to save some money
on the construction of the pond. We need to be able to prove
that this wetland was manmade. We are in the process of
verifying old aerial photographs and are seeking an affidavit
from Dan Tourville who says he witnessed when this wetland was
created by the party farming this parcel many years ago. This
information will be compiled and submitted to RCWD as part of our
permit.
The 1997 City audit has been completed and as of 12/31J97 the
park fund had a balance of $108,829. This does not include the
park dedication fees from the Lakeland Hills development or the
Parkview development. This will be an additional $61.,500.
,
