PARK .AND RECl2EATION
MEETING MINUTES
April l Z998
Present : R. Thompson, D. Porter, D. Larson, S. Brown, M. Navin
Absent . None
Staff . J. March
*************************************************************

LaMotte Park
Discussion on the layout of LaMotte Park was brought forth. The
comparisons of having three ball fields compared to four ball
fields was discussed. The consensus was that three fields would
be adequate. This would result in less maintenance costs and
allow additional room for other activities.
The parking lot layout was discussed. It was mentioned that a
larger, single parking lot would create less confusion than three
smaller parking areas. The drainage from the parking lot would
be designed to flow eas to west across the parking the lot then
flow north to south down a drainage swale to the ditch on the
south end of the parcel.
Moving the pond on the south side of the parcel was discussed.
It was mentioned that this pond should be lengthened and
constructed to run east and wes as narrow as possible.
The I.ocation of bleachers and the spaces needed between
ballfields was discussed. It was the consensus that the area in
between the balfields should be opened up as much as possible.
A motion was made by R. Thompson, seconded by S. Brown to proceed
with the plan as presented, including limiting vehicle access to
the park down LaMotte Drive, establishing pedestrian access off
of Centerville Road, opening up the fields as much as possible
and leaving the monument and garden area alor}e during the
renovation of the park. Motion carried.
It was the consensus to invite D. Nyberg to the next Park and
Recreation meeting.
Motion made by M. Navin, seconded by D. Porter to adjourn the
meeting. Motion carried.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim March
City Admin.istrator
