° Croals and policies are official statements which provide �he basis for growth management <br /> strategies. Goals identify the various objectives the City has identified in managing future <br /> growth and protecting natural resources. Policies represent the ofl7cial position of the <br /> City with respect to implementation of growth management goals. The growth <br /> management plan and official controls are based upon the goals and policies adopted by <br /> the City. <br /> PRIMARY GROWTH MA.NAGEMENT GOAL <br /> It is the overall goal of the City of Centerville to provide diversity in housing, promote <br /> economic development and empIoyment opportunity, and to manage future growth in a <br /> manner consistent with the health, safety and welfare of the public; protection of natural <br /> resources; the ability to provide adequate pubIic services; and the protection of the small <br /> town atmosphere in the City. <br /> LAND USE GOALS and POLICIES <br /> I <br /> GENERA_L LAND USE GOALS: <br /> It is the goal of the City of Centerville to: <br /> • Create a logical and orderly transition from agricultural to non-agricultural land <br /> uses. <br /> • Establish land use patterns which ensure compatibility and function of uses. <br /> • Establish land use patterns which reflect natural amenities and environmental <br /> constraints. <br /> • Establish phased growth areas which reflect City priorities for development <br /> staging and contiguous, planned e�ensions of public infrastructure. <br /> • Protect the small town atmosphere in the community. <br /> � Enhance the character of individual neighborhoods and the sense of overall <br /> community identity. <br /> • Expand retail shopping opportunities. <br /> 30 <br />
