Handling the resulting plant material in the past was easily accomplished by using the Anoka compost site
just 'h mile down the road and that should again be possible.
Eurasian Watermilfoil
With Eurasian Watermilfoil in Bald Eagle Lake and Centerville Lake, the association has been watching
for it. In the fall of 2000, some finally appeared by the island. Several people spent several hours
attempting to dig it out. When the DNR did a survey, they didn't find it where it had been dug out. (There
might still have been some there, but it is interesting that their survey did not find any there. The area is on
the SW corner of the island.). An accompanying map shows the results of the DNR survey.
The presence of Eurasian Watermilfoil is another reason that it is preferable to harvest the Pondweed as it
will also be removing any potentially cut Milfoil. It's unclear what will happen to Peltier Lake as a result
of the Milfoil. The current dominant problem is still the Pondweed and that is what the Peltier Lake
Association would like to try to control.
The Peltier Lake Association would appreciate any help the Rice Creek Watershed District can offer. The
harvesting would improve Peltier Lake not just for the homeowners, but for people using the parks, the
fisherman and boaters who come to the lake, and everyone downstream of Peltier Lake. Thank you for
your consideration and if there are any questions or requests, please contact us.
