♦ <br /> r <br /> NOT <br /> APPROVED <br /> PARKS AND RECREATION <br /> COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES <br /> April 4, 2001 <br /> Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the Parks and Recreation Committee of the City <br /> of Centerville held their regularly scheduled meeting on Apri14, 2001 at City Hall, 1880 <br /> Main Street. Chairperson Doug Porter called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. <br /> Present: Chairperson Doug Porter <br /> Wayne LeBlanc <br /> Karla DeVine <br /> Tedd Peterson <br /> Brian Walter <br /> Absent: I <br /> Staff: Jill Lien <br /> APPEARANCES <br /> Mr. Jeffrey Johnson of the Centennial Soccer Club appeazed before the Parks and , <br /> Recreation Committee to e�ress interest in the use of the soccer fields at Laurie LaMotte <br /> Park this summer. Mr. Johnson also shared his concerns with the size of one of the <br /> soccer fields not being within regulation, the condition of the turf of the fields, and if ' <br /> there were any possibilities of n�nning irrigation to the fields. Additionally, the northeast <br /> corner of the south field (adult field) has a slight incline, which restricts the playing on <br /> that field. Mr. Johnson mentioned that the referees "walked / paced out" the width of this <br /> field, and all had concurred that the field is not 50 yards wide. Standard regulation size is I <br /> 50 yards wide by 100 yards Iong (SOx100). The youth field is fine the way it is, but the <br /> adult field is not within regulation. Mr. Johnson stated that the Centennial Soccer Club <br /> would use these fields for practice only. Typically use would be in the evening, Monday <br /> through Friday. Hopefully next year, they will use it more for games. <br /> Mr. Porter commented that the Parks and Recreation Committee is comrnitted to making <br /> the turf at LaMotte Park, and all of the parks, in excellent condition. He also e�lained <br /> the future plans for utilization of the parks through programs offered through the YMCA <br /> i Day Camp and the Wargo Nature Center. <br /> Ms. DeVine offered to meet with Mr. Palzer next week to "mark-out" the correct size of <br /> the soccer field. Ms. DeVine will update the Committee at the May meeting. <br /> NIr. Terry Sweeney (7154 Brian Drive) appeared before the Parks and Recreation <br /> Committee to discuss the Draft Goa1 Directives Proposal presented by Mayor Swedberg. <br /> Specifically, Mr. Sweeney wasn't pleased with the $75k addition to the Parks and <br /> 1 <br />
