ITEM 2 - PROJECT NARRA.TIVE
Provide a one-page description of your project.
1. Describe what recreation facilities will be developed or rehabilitated and any lands that
will be acquired.
2. Describe your community's need for these facilities and how they will complement
esting recreation facilities,
LaMotte Park
This proposed project involves the construction of appromately 2300 lineal feet of 8'
wide asphalt trail, paving and installation of concrete curb and gutter around an esting
parking lot and the construction of a commercial play structure in tke City of Centerville's ',
largest municipal park. The asphalt trail is designed to interconnect several already linked
new and esting residential subdivisions in Centerville through tne City's largest municipal
park and then link into the Anoka County Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park i
Reserve trail system. i
There is no land to be acquired to complete this project. LaMotte Park was recently
expanded through the acquisition of 12.41 acres that was purchased in Deceznber, 1996.
This recent purchase brings the total pazk acreage to approximately 20 acres of dedicated
park land. So far the City has expended substantial monies from park dedication fiznds on
the acquisition of land and Phase I development. Phase I development includea storm
water improvements, site grading, seeding and mulching, construction of a pleasure rink
and renovation ofthe existing hockey rink.
I
The City is requesting a grant to coznplete tke development of LaMotte Pa.rk. Completing
the development of tbis park will be beneficially significant on a regional level due to the
location of the park. LaMotte Park is located adjacent to the southeast shore of
Centerville Lake. Centeiville Lake is one of the best fishing lakes in the Twin Cities and is
part of a chain of lakes in the County's regional park reserve. Thus, the park would
become a focal point for Centerville, Anoka County and the region by acting as a traillead
for the regional park system.
