Natural And Scenic Area Grant Program <br /> Information Sheet - 2001 Application Cycle <br /> Program purpose To increase, protect and enhance natural and scenic areas. <br /> How it tvorks Provides state grants to local units of government for up to SO% of the cost of acquisition <br /> of natural and scenic areas. <br /> Eligibie applicants Cities, counties, townships and school districts. <br /> Eligible projects Eligible projects include fee title acquisition and perznanent easement acquisition. Minimal <br /> betterment acdvities are eiigible as part of the groposed acquisition project and include <br /> interpretive, educational or boundary signing and protective fencing. <br /> Minimum Projectproposals must have a totai project cost of at least $10,000. Significant progress must <br /> requirements be completed on active projects before an additional proposal can be submitted. <br /> Program Funding A maximum of 50%o of the total eligible project costs not to exceed a maximum grant of <br /> $500,000. Applicants must be abie to fund at least 50% of the total project costs. Costs must <br /> be incarred and paid for before reimbursement can be made. Applicants are eligible to <br /> receive more than one grant. <br /> Grant awards The Departrnent of Natural Resources will review and rank applications during the spring <br /> of 2001. Grant awazds will be announced in the summer of 2001. <br /> Project period Funded pzojects must begin promptly after an agreement has been completed beiween the <br /> State and the applicant. Al] components of the project must be completed by December 31, <br /> 2003. <br /> To Apply To receive an application, please submit an Apvlication Request Form. We recommend <br /> that the Application Request Form be submitted before January 31, 2001.
