 VI - Development Ma 'lan
 Family Picnic Facilities - '
I Family picnic facilities consist of two small picnic shelters; picnic tables, grills and smaU open spaces
, adjacentto the beach, parking lot, and trail system. The shelters are located south of the beach area on the
edge of lower ground. Each of these wil) be about 200 square feet in size and have a capacity of 20
people. Picnic tables, grills, water tap, and electrical service will be provided. Architecturai style of each
shelter wil) compliment the natural setting and Visitor Center building. Picnic tables and grills will be
scattred in areas adjacent,to the beach for the convenience of small groups and families.
Universal Access Consideration: Both shelters will offer easy access via paved access trails from the
parking lots and trail system. Access to the individual picnic tables will vary, with some of them being of
wheelchair accessible.
Group Picnic Shelter
To accommodate emerging demanil, a group picnic shelter near the beach is proposed. The shelter would
' be about 1,400 square feet in size and have a capacity of about 150 people under roof. Patio and deck
spaces adjacent to the structure wll! allow for groups up to 250 to be occsionally accommodated.
Although relatively near the beach, the shelter is set off to the north to minimize encroachment into the
beach aea itself. Important to the siting of this svucture is working with the adjacent property owners to :
make sure adequate bffering is provided befinreen the shelter and private residences. A degree of flexibility `
in siting the structure is justified in this case given that the shelter is a new aspect of the master plan and
. residents are not accustomed to its presence.
Picnic tables, grilis, water tap, and electric will be provided at the shelter. Architectural style of the shelter
wili compliment the natural setting and Visitor Center building. .
Universal Access Consideration: The shelter will offer easy access vIa paved access trails from the parking
lots and trail system. ,
 Trailhead/Beach Building
. The master plan calis for the replacement of the existing restroom building near the beach since
remodeling it to meet current demands would likely cost as much as replacing it The. replacement
structure(s) would be centrally located for the convenience of all picnidbeach area users. The following.
table defines the general program for the trailhead/beach building. .
Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park Reserve Master Plan l 75 .
