' Natural And Scenic Area Grant Program <br /> Information Sheet -1999 Application Cycle <br /> Program purpose To increase, protect and enhance natural and scenic areas. <br /> How it works Provides state grants to local units of government for up to 50% of the cost of acquisirion <br /> of natural and scenic areas. <br /> Eiigible applicants Cities, counties, townships and school districts. <br /> Eligible projects Eligible projects include fee ritle acquisition and permanent easement acquisition. Minimal <br /> betterment activities are eligible as part of the proposed acquisirion project and include <br /> interpretive, educarional or boundary signing and protective fencing. <br /> Minimum Project proposals must have a total project cost of at Ieast $10,Q00. Si�cant progress rt2ust <br /> requirements be completed on acrive projects before an additional proposal(s) can be submitted. <br /> Grant amount A maxunum of 50% of the total eligib�e project costs not to exceed a maxi.mum grant oi <br /> $500,000. Costs must be incurred and paid for before reimbursement can be made. <br /> Applicants are eligible to receive more than one grant. <br /> Local match Applicants must be able to fund at least 50% of the total project costs. <br /> Grant awards The Department of Natural Resources wiIl review and rank applicarions during the spring <br /> of 1999. Grant awards will be announced in the summer of 1999. <br /> Project period Funded projects must begin promptly after an agreement has been completed between the <br /> State of Minnesota and the applicant. Ail components of the project must be completed by <br /> December 31, 2001. <br /> To Apply To receive an application, please submit an ADnlication Res}iiest Form. We recommend <br /> that the Applicarion Request Form be submitted before January 31,1999.
