I am not
suggesting that we do anything at this point, but only be aware that we may have some liability of we are
sponsor of any events on city facilities that use other artisYs music.
rDalCa s Garson, Aclministrator, City of Centerville
From: Mielke, Steven [mailto:smielke@ci.lakeville.mn.us]
Subject: [mcma] ASCAP - Thanks for the feedback
Colleagues,
I recently sent a listserv request for feedback on the topic of ASCAP licensing and received a lot of !
responses. I thought it might be interesting to compile them and send them back out since it appears
that ASCAP is making a push for licensing throughout Minnesota. So here is the compilation. Sorry, it
is long because I got a lot of responses. I removed responder and City names since I did not ask
permission to use them. If you would like to contact me, feel free to cut and paste my address into a
new message. Do not hit reply, it will go to the LMC
Steven C Mielke, Lakeville City Administrator
smielke@ci.lakeville.mn.us
952-985-4401
Steve, I ran into something similar with ASCAP or BMC (that could be the wrong acronym) - anyway
they started out by asking for a crazy amount ($1000) and I kept saying no. The price amazingly
dropped to less than $100 and I still said no. I told them to go ahead a file a lawsuit. I never heard back
from them again. Good luck.
