Mr. Kohl stated that the new show site at Trailside Park has brought higher attendance, provided more exposure and increased membership. Mr. Kohl felt that due to the warmer temperature and mild winter, the season could start in May. Mr. Kohl stated that the show will have a new theme this year based on the Wizard of Oz similar to a June 2, 2012 appearance in Forest Lake. Mr. Kohl reported that the Club had been granted a weed control permit for Centerville Lake in 2011 but did not utilized it and do not believe it will be needed in 2012 either. Mr. Kohl, upon the suggestion of the Chair, City of Centerville Parks and Recreation Committee May 2, 2012 presented several ideas for improving the audience's comfort while viewing the shows at Trailside Park. Council Discussion at their May 25, 2012 Council Meeting. Administrator Larson Dallas stated that the Bald Eagle Waterski Show desires to again provide practices and shows within the City at Trailside Park. Administrator Larson stated that the City owns property that abuts CSAH14 and the St. Paul Regional Water Department owns the property that abuts the lake. Administrator Larson stated that the City has an agreement in place with the Water Department to utilize the property and it expires in 2013. Attorney Glaser suggested a more formal permit for the Bald Eagle Waterski Show, Inc. which would help elevate liability concerns and add protection for the City. Administrator Larson stated that due to Attorney Glaser's vacation and Bald Eagle Waterski Show's scheduled use the item has been forwarded to them for consideration slightly premature even though the permit needs minor refinement. Moving forward I will provide you the following attachment(s) via email and for inclusion in your monthly packets (previously I had only been sending them to the board chair). I anticipate these will prompt some questions so if you would like please email me individually with those and I will then collate all questions /answers and forward them back to the group so we are not out of compliance with any open meeting laws. Reserved Funds Committed 2,500.00 Park and Rec - Volleyball Court ( Deadbroke) Committed 250.00 Park and Rec - Volleyball Court (Centennial Youth Hockey) Committed 714.08 Park and Rec - Concession Operation Committed 2,037.71 Park and Rec - 8K Run proceeds Committed 1,585.53 Park and Rec - Signs Again, the amount of reserve funds is different than your annual budget as these funds are what have been "earned" in prior years and have yet to be spent. The amount of funds committed can be "rededicated" to other purposes through council action, ie, if the committee wanted to earmark the $1,585.53 that is currently dedicated to signs and instead use it for the volleyball court a council resolution rededicating the funds would be needed. Unfortunately, committed concession stand funds really need to stay there as the concession stand runs at a deficit operationally and those funds are there to cushion that. Also, the City anticipates receiving another $5,000 donation from Deadbroke for the construction of the volleyball court. All that said, through some rededication of reserves and when the $5,000 is received, the Committee could potentially have $11,373.24 to use towards the construction of the volleyball courts. Their purpose is to promote the use and enjoyment of Centerville's Parks and Trails. The three Fete des Lacs events are: 1) Ten mile in -line skate race, 2) Five mile (8 kilometer) competitive run using US Track and Field standards, 3) Half mile children's run. The kids run is free to the participants and is fully funded by a team of sponsors lead by Creative Kids Academy, Centerville The events are open to everyone. There are a few restrictions based on cost and the method of timing the races. 1) The In -Line Skate and the Run/Walk are limited to a total of 300 people. This is a limited based on our method of timing. There should not be an issue as we generally draw about 150 people. 2) The events are open to everyone - all ages and all fitness levels. In past years we have not been called upon to accommodate special needs athletes. However, we are prepared to do so. 3) There is a user fee for these events; $20 (adults) for those who pre- register and $30 for those who register the day of the race. This is a common practice to encourage early registration. Our fee is in keeping with the common scale for similar events. We expect children to run in the event describe below. However, if a young athlete 15 years old or younger wants to run the longer distance or skate, they are welcome to do so. Their fee will be $10. The children's run is a full sponsored event and therefore is a free event open to any child ten (10) years old or younger. For safety reasons this event is fully within Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park. To control cost for the sponsor; there is a limit of 50 children. Creative Kids Academy of Centerville is the sponsor. PARK FACILITY PERMIT APPLICATION 1.
