Daniel Schmitz
Dear Mr. Schmitz,
This letter is to officially notify you of the job offer we are tendering to you. We propose
to have you start on March 25, 2013. As I discussed on the phone, this offer is
conditioned on a satisfactory DOT- type physical exam and that your background check
comes back without anything of concern. The background review should be complete by
March 22, 2013. If you fail to pass your physical or have something negative in the
background report, this job offer may be withdrawn.
Your starting pay rate would be Step 3, of Pay Grade 6, which is $20.56 per hour. You
would work on probation for a period of six months during which your work and
compatibility within the department would be evaluated. A minimum condition of your
probation is that you obtain your CDL drivers license. Additionally, if you meet
expectations of the City at December 31, 2013, you will be moved to Step 4 on January 1,
2014. After that, steps would occur annually on January 1, subject to a satisfactory
performance review.
Employment is subject to the labor agreement with Local 49 which covers benefits and
conditions of employment. A copy is available from the city upon request. Any
employment conditions not specifically covered by the Labor Agreement will be guided
by the City's Personnel Policy. Also, I should point out that you would not be eligible for
our health insurance until the first of the month following 30 days of employment, thus
May 1, 2013. Of course, you should not cancel any insurance that you currently carry
until you have confirmation of coverage from our provider. Appropriate paperwork and
applications for insurance can be completed when you start work.
Please contact me if you should have any questions.
Yours truly,
Paul Palzer, Public Works Director
