CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Grahek called the March 4, 2015 Meeting of the Parks & Recreation Committee to order at 6:37 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Roll Call—see above II. SET AGENDA Chairperson Grahek added Items #4, 5 and 6 under Updates (Joint Work Session with Council, Skate Night and Park Maintenance. Motion by Committee Member Peterson, seconded by Committee Member Reinhardt to set the agenda as stated above. All in favor. Motion carried. III. APPEARANCES 1. None. IV. CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES Motion by Committee Member Peterson seconded by Committee Member Bettin er to approve the February 4.2015 as presented. All in favor. Motion carried V. COMMITTEE BUSINESS 1. Appointment of Chair and Vice Chair Page 1 of 4 Motion by Committee Member Peterson, seconded by Committee Member Seeley to appoint Jon Grahek as Chair and Committee Member Wae2he as Vice-Chair. All in favor. Motion carried. 2. Music in the Park There was general discussion and recap of the performers scheduled for this years' music in the park. It was stated that all contracts had been forwarded for musicians' signatures with one have been returned already. 3. Park Dedication Fees The Committee received a memorandum from Staff discussing allocation of $15,000 per Council's budget along with Council's 2015 Focus Goals and Ongoing Priorities. In the same memorandum, Staff explained the subdivision of 7087—20th Avenue South and securities for park dedication fees ($3,806) associated with the subdivision of 6995 —201h Avenue South. 4. Financials The Committee received a memorandum from Staff regarding the undergoing of the 2014 audit and no data was provided. VL UPDATES 1. Council Updates —Council Member Steve King Council Member King reported that Council had discussed the $15,000 that was budgeted, Council's intensions and briefly discussed park dedication fees with the Committee. 2. Music in the Park This was a duplicate items as it was added earlier in the meeting under Item #2 under Committee Business. 3. Basketball Hoops Public Works Director Palzer reported that the order for the hoops had been placed and will be installed as time permits this year. 4. Joint Work Session with Council Page 2 of 4 Chairperson Grahek thanked Commission Member Reinhardt for his attendance of this meeting. 5. Skate Night Brief discussion ensued regarding the attendance of approximately 300 individuals for the February 7, 2015 event. The Committee reported that the Rink Attendant was extremely helpful again this year(Sam). 6. Park Maintenance The rink items that were previously placed on the Action Items list were discussed with Public Works Director Palzer and Mr. Palzer stated that he would research these items. Discussion ensued regarding the Committee's annual cleanup of the parks and preliminarily set a date for the end of April with Staff placing the item on the Agenda for April discussions. Committee Member Peterson stated that he would obtain information from the Cub Scout Pack 432 regarding their clean up date and which parks they would clean up. It was noted that the Centennial Lakes Little League was planning the cleanup of LaMotte park on April 11, 2015 with a backup date of April 18, 2015. VII. OTHER 1. None VIII. ACTION ITEMS Items that have been completed will be removed; some remain open and additional items were added if necessary. A revised Action Item List, as of the February 4, 2015 meeting will be included with the minutes to be approved. This year the contest was renamed The Lion Lynn Johnson Memorial Ice Fishing Contest to honor our late friend and ice fishing master, Lynn Johnson. Thanks in part to your donations,this year's event was a huge success. Your donation of Tickets to the 8K run, was very generous. It's great to have people like you helping The Lions make our community a better place to live. As always, your support is appreciated. The club sold 975 tickets and raised money to support our other events throughout the year. All of the wonderful donations made to this contest helped ensure that all the money we raised can go back to supporting the community in the form of other annual events, food baskets for families in need around the holidays and various kids activities. The club also donates money each year to the Lions International Foundation, which supports Can Do Canines, Disaster Relief, the Lions Eye Bank and many others. This year the contest was held on a different part of the lake, near the boat landing and park. The largest fish we saw this year, a Northern Pike, weighing 4.99 pounds, was caught by Jason Vedders around 1pm. Pictures of Jason and other winners can be found on our Lions Facebook page—a link is at the bottom of this letter. Although the poor visibility did prevent the Young Eagles from doing the airplane rides for kids, we are hopeful that next year we can take flight again. Thanks again for your continued support.
