Upcoming Traffic Changes • A third lane of southbound 1-35E and all ramps between Maryland Avenue and Little Canada Road are anticipated to reopen in late August. • The ramp from southbound 1-35E to eastbound 1-94/southbound Hwy 52 is scheduled to close from Aug. 24 through November for bridge replacement/ramp widening. • The ramps from Cayuga Street to northbound 1-35E and Maryland Avenue to southbound 1-35E will close from late August through early November, until the new southbound 1-35E lanes in St. Paul open. • Other currently closed ramps near downtown St. Paul (such as southbound 1-35E to University Avenue and University Avenue to westbound 1-94) will reopen by November. MnPASS Express Lanes Open Late 2015 • New northbound and southbound 1-35E MnPASS Express Lanes between Little Canada Road and Cayuga Street are anticipated to open in late 2015. Project Benefits • Replaces area bridges currently on the state's list for replacement. • Provides geometric improvements for interchanges and 1-35E, improving safety and traffic flow. • Resurfaces all driving lanes and ramps, for long-term durability and a better driving experience. • Adds new MnPASS Express Lanes to move more people through the corridor and provide a reliable commuting option. Through the 1-35E/1-694 commons area, the existing inside lane will be designated as a MnPASS lane during the weekday morning rush-hour period (6:00-10:00 AM) • Northbound MnPASS lane extension begins at County Rd. E and ends just north of County Rd J. Through the 1-35E/1-694 commons area (between Little Canada Rd. and County Rd. E), there will be no MnPASS lane designation. • The performance of the different MnPASS lane approach through the 1-35E/1-694 commons will be evaluated over a two year period to determine whether modifications need to be made.
