Hope you have an awesome day! Mary ---------- Forwarded message---------- From: daniel capra<ca ahome(amail.com> Date: Wed, Oct 14, 2015 at 10:04 AM Subject: Centerville History To: twilharber(a,centervillemn.com, bfehrenbacher@centervillemn.com, sking_gcentervillemn.com, dlove@centervillemn.com, Jeff Paar<JPaar ,centervillemn.com> Cc: Mike Ericson<mericson(ccentervillemn.com>, Rebecca Ebnet-Mavencamp -rebecca@anokacount history.org> Honorable Mayor and Council Members, I am currently serving as the 6th district representative on the Anoka County Historical Society board of directors and I work closely with Rebecca Ebnet-Mavencamp our director. Rebecca will be appearing before the council this evening to introduce both herself and review the great work ACHS is accomplishing across the county. Many residents of our community myself included have made various efforts over the years to document and preserve our communities rich history thru the reproduction of photos, film and printed materials. I became involved in the preservation of our community history in the mid 90's with a small budget to reproduce a collection of photos from our residents. In addition, the funds were used for my work on Lifetime Achievement Award which recognized and wrote the biographies of citizens who made an impact in our community. Their was a long forgotten donation from the Centerville Lions Club to the city earmarked for historic preservation. I only knew of the donation because Melvin Dupre had saved the receipt as the treasurer of the Lions Club. The council at the time approved the use of the funds to move forward with the project. I believe the spending of that small donation was one of the last times the council made a designated effort toward istoric preservation. i G Mel's funeral is today, I personally feel there would be no greater tribute to a man who recognized the need to preserve our history long before anyone began documenting it than for the council to work accomplish Mel's dream. f would encourage the council to examine how we can work with the staff of ACHS towards accomplishing preserving our past. I see embrace our past as one of biggest assets we have in promoting our future. Thank you for your time and consideration of my opinion.
