I want to encourage the Parks and Recreation Committee to take action regarding the selection of a race director
for the 2016 Festival of the Lakes 5K, 8K, and Kids Run.
This is a urgent matter. The runs may not be until the first weekend in August,but there are steps that the race
director needs to take as early as possible. Those steps include: park permits from the City and the County,
selecting a timer, selecting an on-line registration company, and getting the runs posted on a variety of running
calendars. The race director, timer and on-line registration are all professional people with very busy
calendars. It is important to make this commitment before their calendars are full. The City is committed to a
specific date without the luxury of having alternative dates. Also there is the issue of the County Parks
Permit. They also have a busy summer time calendar and a first come- first served policy.
This agenda item is also important in January as the P&R committee only meets month and their
recommendation will need to go to the City Council for approval.
I have recommended Kern Kolstad(myWahooadventures.com). I know that she would do a good job and keep
this a quality local race. Mike Ericson has interviewed Kerri and was favorable impressed with her
qualifications.
Here is my proposed motion:
" The Parks and Recreation Committee recommends that the City Council authorizes the City
Administrator to negotiate a contract with Kerri Kolstad to be the Festival of the Lakes Race Director for 2016."
There are couple of methods to determine the amount that Ms Kolstad should be paid for her
professional service. I would leave that decision, I would leave that decision up to the professional judgement
of the City Administrator.
