HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-06-01 P & R Minutes - (Approved) PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE Wednesday, June 1, 2016 6:30 p.m. Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the Parks & Recreation Committee of the City of Centerville held a scheduled meeting on June 1, 2016 at the City Hall location. Present: Chairperson Jon Grahek Vice Chairperson Kevin Waeghe Committee Member Kevin Amundsen Committee Member Chris Bettinger Committee Member Brian Peterson Committee Member Suzanne Seeley Also Present: Council Member, Steve King City Administrator, Mike Ericson Absent: Public Works, Paul Palzer I. CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Grahek called the June 1, 2016 Meeting of the Parks & Recreation Committee to order at 6:37 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Roll Call – see above II. SET AGENDA Motion was made by Committee Member Seeley, seconded by Committee Member Waeghe to replace #1 with Thrash Camp X and add modify date for July P & R meeting and P & R Budget under New Business. All in favor. Motion carried. III. APPEARANCES Mr. Matt Gustason & Ms Sarah Lange of Thrash Camp X, a 2 day Skateboarding camp. See New Business #1. IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion was made by Committee Member Waeghe, seconded by Committee Member Bettinger to approve the May 4, 2016 minutes AS AMENDED: Under Roll Call: correct spelling of committee members names – Grahek, Bettinger, Palzer; Under Updates #3 & 4: change in to under; Under adjournment: add Submitted by Brian Peterson, Substitute Recorder. All in favor. Motion carried. V. UNFINISHED BUSINESS City of Centerville Parks & Recreation Committee June 1, 2016 1.Music in the Park – Mr. Tom Lee was not available There will be no Music in the Park on Tuesday, August 2 due to a band will be playing in the “parking lot” across from city hall during the parade. 2.Music in the Park – Committee Member Waeghe Promotion – discussed advertising and distribution of flyers at the park; also use of the sandwich boards; include information in the final issue of the Friday Flash, in addition to utilizing the city website and reader board in front of office. 3.Warming House Overhang – Lighting Issues Motion was made by Committee Member Waeghe, seconded by Committee Member Peterson to recommend to the City Council to approve the purchase and installation of surface mount light fixture (not recessed), with a switch, under the warming house overhang at a cost of approximately $575.00 for the light and approximately $200.00 for the switch. All in favor. Motion carried. 4.Park Facility Permit Application Centennial Youth Football Association Motion was made by Committee Member Grahek, seconded by Committee Member Bettinger to recommend to the City Council to approve the Park Facility Permit Application submitted by the Centennial Youth Football Assn. (CYFA), for Fields 1, 2 and 11 from August 2 through September 24, 2016 from 5 to 8pm on Tuesdays, 5:30 to 8pm on Thursdays and from 8am to 5pm on Saturdays. All in favor. Motion carried. Mr. Eric Simmons will work with the Soccer Club regarding sharing of the fields. VI. NEW BUSINESS 1.Thrash Camp X (for skateboarders) ~ Mr. Matt Gustafson & Ms. Sarah Lange Mr. Gustafson & Ms. Lange provided an overview of this event which provides an opportunity for skateboarders of various skills and ages to focus on personalized goal achievement through a 7:1 rider to coach ratio. Motion was made by Committee Member Bettinger, seconded by Committee Member Amundsen to recommend to the council that they approve this 2 day camp/activity as part of the Fete des Lacs events. They are proposing to hold a 2 day camp on Saturday & Sunday, August 6 & 7 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at a cost of $99 per participant. All in Favor. Motion carried. Reschedule July P & R committee meeting The committee members would like to evaluate all the parks for picnic tables at the conclusion of the July meeting and issue a report for the August meeting. Motion was made by Committee Member Seeley, seconded by Committee Member Waeghe to reschedule the July Park & Rec meeting from Wednesday, July 6 to Wednesday, July 13 due to the 4th of July holiday. All in favor. Motion carried. 3. Budget – P & R Discussed the budget regarding funds available and funds that will be needed to pay for upcoming projects. VII. UPDATES/OTHER 1. Council Updates – Council Member Steve King Mr. King informed the committee members that a Planning Institute is scheduled in July by Urban Land Economic Development. 2.2016 Fete des Lacs ~ 5k/8k Runs Updates – Administrator Ericson There are 10 runners currently registered. There was a suggestion that there could be co-marketing of the 5k/8k Runs on August 6 and the Tour de Hugo Bike Ride on September 24, 2016. 3.2016 Fete des Lacs – Committee Updates – Administrator Ericson Their most recent meeting was on May 30, 2016. They are still working on obtaining additional sponsors for family events. 4.2016 Tour de Hugo Bike Ride – Updates 5.Other – Discussed possibly having a city museum to promote the history of the area. VIII. ACTION ITEMS REVIEW Items that have been completed will be removed; some are still open and additional items discussed at this meeting will be added.
