Wednesday, February 7, 2018 —6:30 p.m.
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the Parks & Recreation Committee of the City of
Centerville held a scheduled meeting on February 7, 2018 at the City Hall location.

1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Waeghe called the February 7, 2018 Meeting of the Parks & Recreation
Committee to order at 6:33 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
Roll Call—see above
IL SET/APPROVE AGENDA
Motion by Committee Member Amundsen, seconded by Committee Member Seeley
to amend this agenda by adding: VI. NewBusiness #3 Waterworks Development
Proposal. All in favor. Motion carried.
III. APPEARANCES/APPOINTMENTS/PRESENTATIONS
Ms. Corinne (Cory) Sendle, the Centennial Schools Community Education Director
spoke to the committee regarding joint promotion of Centennial Community Education
Programs and City/Park and Rec Programs/Activities. This could be done by promoting
community education and activities through the Centennial Schools by
**a monetary &/or use of facilities subsidy of community education programs,
**use of park kiosk(s) for community education promotions and
** use of city facilities for community education programs.
Some ideas presented were a supervised playground program for a couple of hours a day,
a couple of days per week, staff subsidized utilizing one of the Centerville parks;
subsidizing a skate park program; sand Volleyball and Pickleball courts/leagues,
gardening areas, among others. There is also an option for a 2 day Skateboard Camp.

It was moved by Committee Member Wae2he, seconded by Committee Member
Seeley to recommend to the City Council to approve the use of the kiosks, city
facilities and to approve a minimum of$200 donation to support Centennial Schools
Community Education programs. All in Favor. Motion carried.
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion was made by Committee Member Peterson, seconded by Committee
Member Seeley to approve the January 3, 2018 P & R meeting minutes as written
with the addition of VII. UPDATES/OTHER #5. Meeting Efficiency. There was
discussion regarding the efficiency of the P & R committee meetings. All in favor.
Motion carried.
V. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
1. Skating & Sledding Nights —January 20, 2018
The January Skating/Sledding Party was very successful with a good turnout.
About half of the Schwann skating tickets were given out as sledding prizes.
2. Skating Night& Hayride—February 10, 2018
The Hayride will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The cost to the P & R for the
hayride will be $875.00. Skating & Sledding will continue until 9:OOpm. Staff
will provide a check and signed contract, approved by the City Council, to be
given the stables representative(s) on February 10�h. Supplies may need to be re-
inventoried &replenished prior to this event.
3. Fete des Lacs 5/8 Run/Walk—Pat Branch "Tabled to March Meeting
4. Gaga Ball Pit—Corner Braces TABLED TO MARCH MEETING
5. P & R Website—To be Moved to Updates/Other
6. Name Change of Park or Pavilion
After discussion, Committee Member Amundsen offered to further research this
topic.
VI. NEW BUSINESS
1. Community Education through Centennial Schools
Previously discussed.

There was a question from the City Council as to why the Committee has a paid,
non-committee member taking the minutes. The committee members explained
the history of why this option was pursued and asked Council Member Montain to
let the council members know that they would prefer to keep this option.
3. Water Works Development Proposal
City Administrator Statz presented a proposed layout for this property. There
would be no park property to be utilized by P & R.
4. Boy Scout Troop 136
Committee Member Peterson informed the committee members, and offered the
services of this troop of 10-12 members for P & R projects and/or activities such
as Spring Clean-Up Day.
5. Park Promotion—Committee Member Seeley
Various ideas were suggested and discussed.
VII. UPDATES/OTHER
1. Council Updates —Council Member Matt Montain
Council Member Montain reminded the committee members of the upcoming
joint Council meeting for the purpose of setting goals.
2. Review 5 year P & R Projects Lists
3. Review 5 year Park Improvement Projects "Tabled to March Meeting
4. P & R Committee Vacancy Status —1 opening
There is still one vacancy on this committee.
VIII. ACTION ITEMS REVIEW
Items that have been completed will be removed; some are still open and additional items
discussed at this meeting will be added. A revised Action Item List, as of the February 7,
2018 meeting will be included with the minutes to be approved.
