HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-09-19 EDA Minutes - Approved CITY OF CENTERVILLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY MEETING MINUTES September 19, 2018 6:30 p.m. Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the City of Centerville held a scheduled Economic Development Authority meeting of September 19, 2018 at City Hall, 1880 Main Street. PRESENT: Jeff Hanzal Jim Weatherhead Mayor Paar Council Member Steve King YN).. " (1 4 ABSENT: Gary Spanier STAFF: City Administrator Mark Statz I. CALL TO ORDER 1. Administrator Statz administered the Oath of Office for President Hanzal and Commission Member Weatherhead. 2. President Hanzal called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA No changes to the Agenda were made. Motion by Commission Member Weatherhead, seconded by Commission Member King to approve the agenda as presented. All in favor. Motion carried. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES No changes to the Minutes for the August 27, 2018 meeting were made. Motion by Commission Member Weatherhead, seconded by Commission Member Paar to approve the Minutes of the August 27, 2018 Meeting as presented. All in favor. Motion carried. IV. BILLS AND COMMUNICATIONS 1. Bills (a) None V. REPORTS City of Centerville EDA Meeting Minutes September 19,2018 1. Ms. Kathleen Duchene—Open to Business Administrator Statz Introduced Ms. Kathleen DuChene, from Open to Business, a non-profit which assists businesses, with remodels, additions, start-up, business planning and the like, through direct consultation, connecting them with various resources, or via gap financing. Ms. Duchene gave a presentation on her organization and invited the board to partner with her to help local businesses grow. The board thanked Ms. Duchene for her work and felt strongly that future partnerships would come from Centerville businesses. No official action was taken. 2. Ms. Jacquel Hajder—Anoka County Regional Economic Development Administrator Statz introduced Ms. Jacquel Hajder, from Anoka County Regional Economic Development. She is a new hire of the county, to lead the Regional Economic Development group that has been meeting for about a year now. Ms. Hajder explained her role and what types of things she can help the city with, including, responding to RFPs, preparing promotional materials, representing at regional and state-wide conferences and help with re-branding. The board thanked Ms. Hajder for her work and encouraged her to keep in touch with city staff to assist with growing the city's business community. No official action was taken VI. OLD BUSINESS 1. Goal Setting Discussion Administrator Statz stated that he wished to have the board weigh in on some of the items he had outlined for potential goals of the EDA. After much discussion, all of the goals outlined were found to be worthy of the board's time and energy. In fact, the board made note that, even after ranking the goals, in order of importance, they felt strongly that all of the items must be priorities in the near future. The average ranking of each of the goals by each member of the board, ended with the following list of priorities, from most important to least: 1. City Owned Property 2. Downtown/Waterfront Plan 3. Rebranding 4. Loan/Grant Program 5. Private Development/Redevelopment Sites 6. Modernization/City Hall Renovation Page 2 of 3 City of Centerville EDA Meeting Minutes September 19,2018 7. Code Compliance (comm/industrial) This agenda item was meant simply as a way to gain general guidance from the commission and does not represent any formal action. VII. NEW BUSINESS 1. Resolution #EDA 18-06 Changing date of November Regular Meeting Administrator Statz explained that the regularly scheduled November meeting would fall on the night before Thanksgiving. After some discussion it was decided that combining the November and December meetings would work best to avoid conflict with the Holidays. Therefore, the November and December regular meetings would be canceled and a special meeting would be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 6:30 PM. Motion by Commission Member Weatherhead, seconded by Commission Member Paar to Adopt Resolution #EDA 18-06, Canceling the regularly scheduled November and December meetings, and scheduling a special meeting for December 5, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. All in favor. Motion carried. VIII. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Commission Member King, seconded by Commission Member Paar to Adiourn the EDA meeting of September 19, 2018 at 9:07 p.m. All in favor.
