CITY OF CENTERVILLE
PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the City of Centerville’s Parks & Recreation Committee
held a scheduled meeting on June 5, 2019 at City Hall, 1800 Main Street.
Present: Committee Member Kevin Waeghe, Chairman
Committee Member Chris Bettinger
Committee Member Brian Peterson
Committee Member Suzanne Seeley
Also Present: Tedd Peterson, Public Works
Michelle Lakso, Council Member Liaison
Absent: Committee Member Heidi Errickson-Grahek

I. CALL TO ORDER
Committee Member Chair, Kevin Waeghe called the June 5, 2019 Meeting of the Parks &
Recreation Committee to order at 6:47p.m. in the Council Chambers. Results of the roll
call are shown above.
II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Motion made by Committee Member Waeghe, seconded by Committee Member
Seeley to approve the Agenda as written. All in favor. Motion Carried
III. APPEARANCES/APPOINTMENTS/PRESENTATIONS
Ms. Kathy Freiermuth – swearing in as new committee member - postponed
Mr. Pat Branch – see Committee Business #2 Fete des Lacs Management Plan
Mr. Tedd Peterson – see Committee Business #4 Playground Equipment Replacement
Mr. Greg Nohner, Resident
IV. PUBLIC HEARINGS – NONE
V. UNFINISHED COMMITTEE BUSINESS
1. 16-017: Gaga Ball Pit (has been installed) & Triple Shoot Basket Ball Game
(has not yet been installed) – TABLED TO JULY
2. 19-008: Fete des Lacs 5k & 8k Runs & Paddle des Lacs – Mr. Pat Branch

Mr. Branch provided the committee members with the following updates for the
runs:
Copy of the new logo and article was sent to the Citizen for inclusion in their
Event Pages for both the Runs & the Paddle events.
Mr. Branch will post a copy of the flyer in the kiosk in Cornerstone Park
Add new logo to the Centerville City website on P & R page
Will need a volunteer coordinator and a volunteer manager
Will need a Pro Timer for the runs
Centennial EMS have been notified
Set up the course(s) on Thursday – Pat Branch plus will need 2 volunteers
Registration to be set up in Laurie LaMotte Park (by garage)
Need vinyl banner for the registration areas & announcing
Water stops: Kevin & Nancy Amundsen
Finish Line: pizza
Mr. Branch provided the updates for the Paddle des Lacs:
Need a boat for Sunday with a committee member in the boat during the
paddle event
Need a volunteer to set up buoys and on water watching paddlers (possibly
Chris B?)
Need timers for paddle event
3 paddles available: 1 to adult winner; 1 to random participant; 1 to children’s
winner (need to establish age range)
Invoice for rental of canoes, etc. from Kari Kolstad to be sent to the city for
payment
Three to five golf carts will be needed for this event. Mr. Statz will redo the matrix
information sheet with places for volunteer names, with time slots, etc.
3. 19-014: Water Ski Shows – Vendors & Shuttle for Senior Citizens – TABLED
TO JULY (see previously discussed issues in the May, 2019 minutes.
4. 19-019: Select Playground Equipment Replacement Schedule
Mr. Tedd Peterson, Public Works Department, provided a list of the parks, the
equipment installation dates and estimated replacement dates:
Tracy McBride Park – Due to frost movements, the 5-12 play structure is the
highest priority.
Eagle Park – Wood fall protection is needed every 3 years
Royal Meadows Park – Wood fall protection is needed every 3 years & the
wood border needs to be replaced.

Acorn Creek Park – Wood fall protection is needed every 3 years
Laurie LaMotte Park – Rubber fall protection needs supplementing every 10-
12 years.
Mr. Peterson will request that Mr. Statz provide that estimates be obtained to repair
the age’s 5-12 play structure in Tracy McBride and to replace the wood border in
Royal Meadows.
The committee would like to evaluate the condition of all of the playground
equipment and prioritize for future repair and/or replacement. Estimates will then
be needed, as well as funding sources and a specific schedule for replacement.
Maps were provided to the committee members of each park with the locations of
play structures, swing sets, benches, ball fields, picnic tables, toilet facilities, trash
receptacles, etc.
V. NEW COMMITTEE BUSINESS
1. Ms. Miranda Lauzon requested the use of the Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park Shelter
for a birthday party on June 8, 2019. This request was approved by staff on May 28,
2019, due to the time constraints of the event.
IV. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
By consensus of the committee members, the approval of the May 1, 2019 P & R
Committee were tabled until the July 3, 2019 meeting. The members would prefer to
receive them at their alternate email.

Bettinger to adjourn the June 5, 2019 meeting at 8:02 p.m. All in Favor. Motion
Carried.
