ADJOURNMENT MEETING REMINDERS www.centervillemn.com MUSIC IN THE PARK Dirt Road Dixie/Disney MOVIE IN THE PARK CITY OF CENTERVILLEREQUEST FOR ACTION Agenda Item # Department: RequestedMeetingDate: September 1, 2020 Parks VI.1 TITLE OF ISSUE: Adopt a Park Monument Flower Garden BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: A former staff member used to maintain these spaces (weeding, planting donated perennials and some purchased annuals). A volunteer used to weed and plant annuals as a supplement to the existing perennials at two (2) of the six (6) parks in 2014 with a budget of $25. Seasonal P.W. staff has also weeded these gardens in the past. The City has also enlisted our Part-Time janitorial staff to also weed these gardens in the past. It was brought to light recently that the City Hall gardens needed tending and work was preformed by P.W. staff. Due to the non-hiring of Seasonal Staff this year due to COVID-19, these gardens are in need of updating and general maintenance. It is believed that at least three (3) volunteers could be obtained to take on this task, but staff is looking for direction as to a budget amount per monument. It would be suggested, that as in the past, a combination of perennials and annuals be purchased if the existing perennials need to be removed. Several of these perennials may need to be divided and could be utilized at other parks. The City has a total of eight (8) parks with one being cared for by the Bald Eagle Ski Club and does not have a true monument flower bed. COST AND SOURCE(S) OF FUNDING: ? UNFINISHED COMMITTEE BUSINESS 1. Music in the Park The members of the Music in the Park committee have scheduled five Tuesday performances, beginning on July 28, 2020 through August 25, 2020. There were approximate 40 people in attendance on July 28, 2020. It is unknown at this time what the attendance was for the August 4, 2020 performance. 2. Parking Lot Design at Acorn Creek The committee members reviewed the formal drawing of the improvements to the new trail and the addition of approximately 10 parking spaces at Acorn Creek Park. There are 2 spruce trees that will need to be removed and discussed replacing them with pin oak trees which can grow up to 2 feet per year. The trail would connect from the Old Mill Estates Development and tie into the existing trail.
