HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-01-08 P & R Minutes - Approoved CITY OF CENTERVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the City of Centerville’s Parks & Recreation Committee held a scheduled meeting on January 8, 2020 in the Conference Room of the Centennial Fire Station #3. Present: Committee Member Chris Bettinger Committee Member Heidi Errickson-Grahek Committee Member Brian Peterson Committee Member Suzanne Seeley Committee Member Kevin Waeghe, Chairman Also Present: Linda Neudecker, Recorder Absent: Committee Member Kathy Freiermuth Michelle Lasko, Council Member Liaison Mark Statz, City Administrator/Engineer I. CALL TO ORDER Committee Member Chair, Kevin Waeghe, called the January 8, 2020 Meeting of the Parks & Recreation Committee to order at 6:40 p.m. in the Conference Room of Centennial Fire Station, #3 due to City Council meeting utilizing the Council Chambers at City Hall. This stth meeting was rescheduled from January 1 to January 8. II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Motion made by Committee Member Seeley, seconded by Committee Bettinger to approve the Agenda as Written. All in favor. Motion carried III. APPEARANCES – Ms Angela Conley Please see #2 under Unfinished Business IV. PUBLIC HEARINGS - None V. UNFINISHED COMMITTEE BUSINESS 1. 19-011 Lights for Sledding Hill The responsibility of the P & R Committee would be to cover the cost of a pole & light using a photo cell, timer, or connect to the hockey rink. Subsequent to this meeting, 6 larger light fixtures were donated to the city. The city will be installing a new light pole during the summer. The cost of the electricity would be the responsibility of the City. City of Centerville Park & Recreation Committee January 8, 2020 Motion made by Committee Member Bettinger, seconded by Committee Member Errickson-Grahek to accept these donated light fixtures and requested that a thank you letter be sent to the individual who donated these light fixtures. All in Favor. Motion carried 2. 19-014: Thursday evening BEWS Vendor(s) Event Coordinator There have been conversations regarding holding a longer term summer event, possibly tied in with the Bald Eagle Water Ski Shows. Ms Angela Conley is interested in helping to coordinate this event and attended this evenings’ meeting. She presented a plan which included potential goals, logistics, and budget, types of vendors, etc. Ms Conley indicated her interest to undertake this position. Motion made by Committee Waeghe, second by Committee Member Seeley to appoint Ms. Conley as the Volunteer Event Leader for the Centerville Thursday Night Vendor Event. All in Favor. Motion carried. 3. 19-029: Skate Night – Friday, January 10, 2020 This event is scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; and includes skating and the following activities, if available: Star Gazing, Snow Shoeing, Sledding, Fat Bikes and Cross Country Skiing. The Wargo Nature Center will have staff on hand with Fat Tire Bikes, Kicksleds and Snowshoes. The Public Works Department will do what they can to provide good ice on the rink(s). They will also deliver the pallets for the bonfire. In addition, the Park & Recreation Committee members will be providing hot chocolate, popcorn, S’mores and more…….Volunteers to arrive at 5 pm for set up. 4. 19-030: Skate Night – Saturday, February 15, 2020 This agenda item has been tabled to the February meeting. 5. 10-032: Fete des Lacs – update from Liaisons VI. NEW COMMITTEE BUSINESS None. VII. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES September 4, 2019 Page 2 of 4 City of Centerville Park & Recreation Committee January 8, 2020 Motion made by Committee Member Seeley, seconded by Committee Member Errickson-Grahek to approve the minutes of the September 4, 2019 P & R committee meeting as written. All in favor. Motion carried. December 4, 2019 Motion made by Committee Member Bettinger, seconded by Committee Member Peterson to approve the minutes of the December 4, 2019 P & R committee meeting with the following corrections: all under Unfinished Business – last line of first paragraph under 2A 19-007: change date from 2014 to 2024; Unfinished Business – last line of first paragraph under 3. – change time from 7-6 pm to 6-7pm; correct spelling of Keven’s name to Kevin Under #4 and change #5 from 6 to 4…. #5. All in favor. Motion carried. VIII. UPDATES/ANNOUNCEMENTS 1. Council Liaison Updates – Council Member Lasko: NONE 2.
