TITLE OF ISSUE:
Remote Control Car Course
BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
Misters Durrant and Remarcik proposed to the committee the possibility of an installation of a Remote Control Car Course within a
current park within the city at your last meeting. The item was tabled for additional research, possible location and visual inspection
of a nearby course located in Hugo (Irish Avenue Park). The committee/city had concerns regarding liability issues with the use of
equipment (Bobcat/Skid Steer) by volunteers and relying on volunteers for routine care/maintenance once the initial investment being
made by the city.
Two sites were looked at which aerial photos are contained in your packet: Near Royal Meadows Park - not recommended due to:
close proximity to residences, area is heavily wooded and no parking. City owned property along Commerce Drive - additional
research of area/wetland would be needed with RCWD (soil disturbance and maintenance around course). Property is zoned I-1
(Industrial) and not located near residences. Public Works does have concern for additional maintenance if a course would be placed
not in an area already maintained (grass and weed control)/park.

Community Priorities (Future Projects, U of M Survey & Council Strategic Planning)
BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
In 2024, Chair Errickson-Grahek attended several events and obtained community input regarding amenities that residents wanted to
see in their community. A copy is contained in your packet. The committee has utilized this data to determine lower cost items that
could be installed within their parks. Several of these amenities have been completed (e.g. additional pickle ball courts, new play
structure, and disc golf. All at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park and the Fiore Tree (art in downtown) to be installed at Cornerstone
Park.
Administrator Lewis will be on hand to provide more information about the U of M Empowering Small MN Communities Study may
assist in visions going forward.

Grand Opening Laurie LaMotte Memorial Disc Golf Course
BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
With the completion of signage, the course will be completed very soon. A resident volunteer/disc golfer
(Sean Conley) has volunteered to lead a disc golf seminar/demonstration. The committee has purchased
several sets of discs that can be given away at this event and numerous invitations should be extended to the
public and local dignitaries (e.g. Mayor, City staff, board/commission members/local paper/NMTV, etc.) just
to name a few.

Installation Glider, Swing(s) & 2-5 age Free-Standing Play Structure & 2030 Capital Replacement Vision
BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
The above stated items were removed from Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park with the intent on re-use within the
Royal Meadows Park. Consideration of incorporation of the items, timeline, funding, etc. should be considered
along with the Capital Replacement Plan of 2030 for replacement of all existing equipment within the park
($170,000).

Timeline Format (Updated 9/4/2024)
Revised plan replaces all park playground equipment in the course of 15 years, with a
roughly 30-year life cycle.
Requires $65,000 less/year to keep the Capital Fund solvent.

Volunteer Appreciation - invitations have either been emailed or mailed and hors d'ourves have been secured
with Kelly's Korner (October 22, 2025, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.)
Fiore Tree & 4-Year Tree Plan - both were approved by Council at their 9/24/2025 meeting. Staff will be
meeting with the Public Works Staff and vendors for installation.
Disc Golf Signage - Progress continues with anticipate for completion shortly.
