HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-08-14 Emergency Council MeetingCITY OF CENTERVILLE EMERGENCY CITY COUNCIL MEETING August 14, 2007 8:00 a.m. Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the City of Centerville held an emergency meeting on August 14, 2007, at City Hall, 1880 Main Street. PRESENT: Mayor Mary Capra Tom Lee Council Member Linda Broussard Council Member Jeff Paar arrived @ 8:08 a.m. ABSENT: Council Member Michelle Lakso STAFF: Public Works Director Paul Palzer Centennial Lakes Police Officer Kris Carlson City Clerk Teresa Bender I. CALL TO ORDER Mayor Capra called the August 14, 2007, Emergency City Council meeting to order at 8:05 a.m. II.PURPOSE OF EMERGENCY MEETING During the evening of August 13, 2007 the City was subjected to torrential rains and straight-line winds which caused extensive damage throughout the City. The purpose of the emergency meeting of the City Council was to discuss issues related to providing community assistance and related to clean-up and repair from the storm damage. III.STORM DAMAGE/CENTERVILLE RESIDENTS Lengthy discussion was had by all members present regarding services to provide to residents during the cleanup efforts. Numerous options were discussed along with liability issues, costs, funding and utilizing staff for services. Consensus was to only provide services such as Waste Management’s brush removal and the compost site’s services at this time. Council requested that optional services be considered; contacting local emergency officials for potential assistance, contracting for removal of brush/tree debris services for no fee/reduced fees after securing proposals, obtaining suggestions from other communities who have dealt with similar situations, funding, etc. City of Centerville Emergency Council Meeting Minutes August 14, 2007 Public Works Director Mr. Paul Palzer reported that the Public Works building located th 7087 – 20 Avenue South had received minimal damage from what was believed to be a neighboring businesses sign. Mr. Palzer stated that photographs had been taken and would be forwarded to the Finance Director for insurance purposes. Council directed Mr. Palzer to repair items that needed repair to prevent further damage in those areas. Discussion ensued regarding the new Public Works building and move in date. III. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Council Member Lee, seconded by Council Member Broussard, to adjourn the Emergency Council meeting of August 14, 2007 at 8:20 a.m. All in favor. Motion carried unanimously.
