This memo concerns the question of whether bolt replacement should be added to the upcoming street
improvement project on Mill and Overlay streets.
The cost estimate below addresses the impact of excavation and replacement of water main bolts on gate
valves and hydrants. The cost to excavate and replace bolts is approximately $2,500 per gate valve or
hydrant.

Brian Drive $30,000
Brian Way $7,000
Clear Ridge $10,000
Fox Run $17,000
Grainge View $5,000
Total Estimated Cost for Mill and $69,000
Overlay Streets
Please note that the estimate does not include replacement costs for tees, bends, or other fittings.
Due to corrosive soils numerous bolts have failed in the past within Centerville. The cost to repair these
water main breaks as they occur is approximately $5,000 per occurrence. Based on City Public Works Staff's
past experience with water main breaks, it is recommended that these replacements be added to the
project.
