Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the PI8.nning and Zoning Commission of the City of
Centerville held its regularly scheduled meeting at City Hall, 1880 Main Street.

CALL TO ORDER
Mr. LaMottte called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

The oath of office will be administered to the new members of the September meeting.

Signage for Apple Tree Square
The commission reviewed and discussed plans submitted by Lloyd Drilling for placement at the
newly developed Apple Tree Square.

Review Animal Ordinance
The commission discussed in great detail the current and proposed animal ordinance. Many
different issues were brought to the table and reviewed. Additional time for further discussion on
the animal ordinance is necessary for completion, and will be placed on the September agenda.
Specific areas of concern discussed were:
~ Possibly removing certain animals from the list.
~ Grand fathering clause for specific animals (i.e. ferrets, allowing existing ferrets to remain
in City upon licensing, until death of the animal.
~ The control of pigeons. Possibly add the pigeon section of the Coon Rapids Ordinance.
~ Household pet vaccination period, increase to once every two years.
~ Types of animals to be licensed; dogs, cats, ferrets, etc.
· Require proof of rabies vaccination each time the license is renewed.
~ Limiting the number of dogs and cats per household.
~ Animals running at large; household and wild.
The commission will request Police Chief Joel Heckman to review the proposed ordinance, as
well as request guidance from Centerville City Council.
Year 2000 Budget Considerations
Motion by Mr. DeVine. seconded by Mr. Kilian to table Year 2000 BudJet Considerations.
Motion carried unanimously.
ACTION ITEMS
Action on Signage for Ap!>le Tree Square
Motion by Mr. Hanson. seconded by Mr. DeVine to approve sign age for Apple Tree
Square based on the sketches provided. Motion carried unanimously.
Recommendations on Animal Ordinance
Motion by Mr. Kilian. seconded by Mr. DeVine to table the Animal Ordinance. Motion
carried unanimously.
