ADJOURNMENT Norma Essex 7333 Old Mill Rd Centerville MN 55038 Phone 407-5111 e-mail nessex@maroon.tc.umn.edu October 6, 1997 RyChell Gustad City Clerk Dear Ms Gustad: This is a letter of application for the volunteer position on the Planning and Development Committee for the City of Centerville. My daughter says I will live to be 105 years-oid because it will take me that long to slow down If she is right, I will be a resident of Centerville for a very long time. I care about the city as it is now and how it will be in years to come. What we do now will have an impact on our community of the future. I am interested in working with the community in hopes of making it one of the best for the people today and those of tomorrow. Recently I retired from the Universtty of Minnesota. During my employment, I worked in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife and The Mn Building Research Center. While working with the wildlife faculty, I learned about the impact of humans on wildlife and vice versus. At the Mn Building Research Center, I attended many seminars, typed talks from conferences and research papers. I learned a great deal about indoor air quality and energy efficient buildings, the focus of the department. I helped set up and run equipment in homes measuring the tightness of the homes and backdrafting. Our work reached into other disciplines as well. Under that umbrella were the Underground Space Center, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Wood and Paper Science, and Design, Housing and Apparel. My husband and I built a category I house last year in Centerville. This is the tightest home one can buiid at the present time. The state building codes in a few years will require only category I houses. As a senior citizen and resident, I would like to contribute my talents to help make Centerville a community we are all proud of. Sincerely, / i O~l/Yv<-i'~ g Ah.Y' Norma Essex AUG 24 '93 10:09AM ELECTRO MECHANICAL INC.
