HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-11-03 Minutes PARK AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1993 - 6:30 P.M. Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the Park and Recreation Committee of the City of Centerville held their regular meeting on Wednesday, November 3, 1993 at the City Hall. Chairperson Dixon called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. Present: Drilling, Larson, Navin, Reisdorfer. MINUTES: September 1. 1993 meeting minutes. Motion by Reisdorfer, second by Navin to approve the September 1, 1993 meeting minutes, motion carried unanimously. NEW BUSINESS: Centennial Hockey Association Ian and Carolyn Pickle, 7122 Brian Drive, Representatives of the Centennial Hockey Association, were present. Mr. and Ms. Pickle expressed concern about having more ice time in Centerville and the ice not being properly prepared last year. Mr. and Ms. Pickle noted that would also like more supervision of the ice rink. It was noted that Centennial Hockey was in charge of the preparation of the ice rinks. Motion by Reisdorfer, second by Navin to tentatively allow the Centennial Hockey Association use of the facility based on these requirements: - the Centennial Hockey Association supplies a schedule of the times and days they wish to use the facility by the December meeting; - flooding is to be done by the Centennial Hockey Association on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday whether or not they use the rink; - one warning will be issued and if the flooding is not done a second time, the Centennial Hockey Association will not be allowed to use the facility; for the following days: - Monday 5:30 - 9:30 - Tuesday 5:30 - 9:30 - Wednesday 5:30 - 9:30 - Thursday 5:30 - 9:30, motion carried unanimously. OLD BUSINESS: Installation of Timbers - Water Tower Park. Committee member Navin updated the Park and Recreation Committee on the installation of the timbers at Water Tower Park. Mr. Navin noted that Neil Reisdorfer, Tom Wilharber and himself P &R MEETING MINUTES NOVEMBER 3, 1993 PAGE TWO installed the timbers on Labor Day weekend. Mr. Navin noted that sand has been delivered. Motion by Drilling, second by Reisdorfer to direct the City to finish the installation of the equipment, spread out the sand and complete the timbers by December 1, 1993, motion carried unanimously. Night Golf Tournament. Motion by Reisdorfer, second by Drilling to direct City staff to send thank you letters to the following businesses: - Anoka County Park - for use of Chomonix Golf Course; - Lorenz Bus Company - use of bus and driver; - Sporting Goods Inc. - $50.00 gift certificate; - Waterworks Beach CLub - $25.00 gift certificate; - Kelly's Korner /Bill Bisek - $50.00 gift certificate and volunteering time as event coordinator, motion carried unanimously. Centerville Lions Club - Reauest for Donation. Committee member Navin requested various park items to be donated. The Centerville Lions showed some interest in donating park signs. The Centerville Lions are supposed to send the Park and Recreation Committee written notice of what they wish to do. Some discussion took place regarding adult recreational activities at the parks. The Park and Recreation Committee requests that this topic be placed on the January meeting agenda: Centerville Lions Club Donations. 1994 Budget. The park maintenance budget was discussed. Committee member Reisdorfer will coordinate with the City staff any budget concerns; basically putting it together. Motion by Drilling, second by Navin that at least two Park and Recreation Committee members will be present and explain the Park and Recreation Committee's budget and any other issues at a future City Council meeting; as a result, the Park and Recreation Committee would like a "list of issues for City Council regarding park functions" removed from the agenda, motion carried unanimously. The Park and Recreation Committee would like to be notified when the City Council will be discussing the budget so they can attend. Five Year Capital Improvement Plan. Tabled. P &R MEETING MINUTES NOVEMBER 3, 1993 PAGE THREE NEW BUSINESS: Water Hoses for Flooding Hockey and Pleasure Rink. Motion by Reisdorfer, second by Navin to direct Committee member Larson to give the hose dimensions to Chairperson Dixon; - Chairperson Dixon will check into purchase prices and related concerns; - information will be presented at the December Park and Recreation meeting; - the City staff is directed to develop a plan to build something at the warming house to hang hoses or in some way protect the hoses and prevent injuries by keeping the hoses off the floor; - this plan should include costs and be presented at our December meeting, motion carried unanimously. Central Park - LAWCON Program. Committee member Larson will address these issues with the Clerk /Administrator and /or state grants manager. Rink Attendants. Committee member Reisdorfer has had City staff run rink attendant want ads. The rink attendant duties and other requirements were discussed, some changes will be made. No t.v.'s, 6 attendants are desired were discussed are possible changes. Motion by Reisdorfer, second by Larson to direct City staff to ask the area high schools if there is some way the Park and Recreation Committee can advertise in the school newspaper for attendants; - City staff is requested to call Committee member Reisdorfer with the answer; - The City should also run a public service ad on the Forest Lake radio station, cable t.v. and City newsletter, motion carried unanimously.
