Nyberg, P.E., Project Manager ( SUBJECT: ANOKA COUNTY PARK PLANS TRAILS SERVING LAMOTTE PARK File: 801380j-0060 We contacted the Anoka County Park and Recreation Department to inquire about a proposed schedule and plan for trails in the vicinity of the proposed Lamotte Park in Centerville. We talked to Mr. Nick Eoloff, a landscape architect, with the Park Department. Mr. Eoloff indicated that the legislature recently adopted the proposed expenditures for Anoka County. This means that the County can pursue implementation of the proposed trail from Aqua Lane in Lino Lakes around the south end of Centerville Lake and connecting with Lamotte Park. , Mr. Eoloff said that the proposed schedule for this work includes design of the trail beginning this year and completed by next year, with a proposed bid date sometime in 1999. Construction would begin in 1999. We also asked Mr. Eoloff about the proposed trail along Centerville Road. Mr. Eoloff said this trail would be constructed only in conjunction with reconstruction of Centerville Road. He said this was an Anoka County Highway Department issue. We sent Mr. Eoloff a copy of the preliminary plan for the proposed Lamotte Park project. Suite 330 Arden Hifls, MN 55126-8056 RE: LAURIE LAMOTTE PARK — EXCAVATION COSTS Dear Ms. Drewry, As you are aware, the City of Centerville is proposing some major improvements to the existing ' Lamotte Park property west of Centerville Road and south of Heritage Street. Improvements ', would include new softball fields, new soccer fields, a new parking area, and possible , playground and open space areas. i i The City of Centerville is interested in the possibi(ities of a cost share program with the Rice � Creek Watershed District to accomplish the mutual goals of the Watershed and City of I Centerville. The City of Centerville has the goal of developing the park while minimizing wetland I impacts and providing suitable mitigation to accommodate the requirements of the Watershed. i We understand the Rice Creek Watershed is interested in improving the water quality of i Centerviile Lake, just west of the proposed park. ' The City has been considering options for development and improvements to the park property I � for about a year. In a letter dated June 27, 1997, the estimated earthwork costs for the Lamotte ' Park project were fisted as shown: Earthwork 10,000 Cubic Yards $2.50/cy $25,000 We understand that the Rice Creek Watershed District is interested in the construction of a sedimentation pond adjacent to the creek extending along the south property line of the park property. We have shown this proposed ponding area in our most recent grading plan, which we have attached to this letter for your reference. The cost estimates for earthwork on the entire park property inctuding the ponding area were itemized in a letter to the City of Centerville dated April 1, 1998. Below are the earthwork costs listed in this letter. Nyberg, P.E., Project Manager .� SUBJECT: PROPOSED TRAIL EXTENStON — EAGLE PASS DEVELOPMENT TO BR1AN DRIVE SIDEWALK File: 260078m-0071 As we have previously discussed, the sub-contractor responsible for constructing the bituminous trails through the Eagle Pass development has been contacted regarding extending � the bituminous trail to the existing sidewalk along Srian Drive. ' i Mr. Paul Palzer and I met with the sub-contractor, Mr. Urban Schmidtbauer of Diversified � Paving, Inc., on April 16�' to discuss the proposed project. We reviewed the proposed � alignment from Brian Drive to Dupre Road through the Eagle Pass and Clearwater Meadows � development. �� It appears the trai� alignment through Eagle Pass may need some soil correction work through I ' some soft areas as well as possibly grading areas in the vicinity of the trai! to final grade prior to �, trail construction. We wi(I be contacting Midwest Land Surveying and Engineering, the developers engineer, to inquire about this work. The schedule for trail construction may need to be delayed to accommodate this necessary work. We wiU keep you updated on this issue. The contractor for the project, C.W. Houle, (nc, indicated last year that they could complete this work for $2000. Mr. Schmidtbauer indicated that this was acceptable to him. They � are going to be quite involved in this project with us. It has been extremely heipful to us to ieam what i they would like to see in our city and our parks. These students have several very good ideas. i � I would like to suggest an idea for the Acom Creek Park. Perhaps we could we ask Mrs. Millington and I Mr. Baland to incorporate a project into the curriculum for the 4�' and 5"' grade students to design the Acom Creek Park. You could use some or all of their ideas, depending on what you like. When I complete, we could dedicate the Park to all the students at Centerville Elementary School. They would I take so much pride in their work and their park. I I have also heard ideas from the Centerville Lions Club regarding this park. They may have some funds to help us as well.� I am sure it would take some time to put a plan together with everyone involved. I would be willing to I help in any way I can. The two style options are short sleeve polos or long sleeve denim shirts. The polo shirt is $21.00 and the denim shirt is $28.00. There are several color options available in the polo style shirts.
