A public hearing was duly scheduled and called to order by
Chairperson R. Thompson at 7:00 P.M.
A brief overview of the proposed layout for the development of �,
LaMotte Park was given. I
J. March gave a presentation on Anoka County's plan to develop
the Rice Creek Regional Park. The County provided a visual aid I
that showed how their paved tra.ils could interconnect with the
trails in LaMotte Park. The County is proposing to upgrade the I
regional park in an amount of approximately $1.7 million dollars. I

Mr. Bob Barett (6953 Centerville Road) was present to discuss his I
concerns with the development. Mr. Barett was in favor of the I
park being developed. He stressed that he would like to see the I
parking lots paved with asphalt as soon as possible to help keep I
dust down. He also was concerned with the weeds currently i
growing on the property. I

Mr. Ben Henrich (6945 Centerville Road) was present to listen to
the plans to develop the park. He indicated he was in.favor of
the project. He was glad to see the land used as a park, instead
of a residential development.
Motion made by M. Navin to adjourn the meeting, seconded by R.
Thompson. Motion carried.

Pursuant to due call and notice thereof the Park and Recreation Committee of the Gi�• of
Centerville held their regular meeting on June 16, 1997 at City Hall. I1�Ieeting wa.� called to
order at 6:30 p.m. by C.hauperson Richard Thompson.

C.�had Bruner, from Forest Lake ilrea Athletic Association, which represents girLs I,
softball, commented that the field length of 28� ft. may be a little short for baseball, but I
is adequate for so�tball. �
The Forest Lake tlrea Athletic Association is looking for additional space - probably two I ,
fields. Currently the Lino Lakes girls team is scheduled for six nights per week. (�ne
option to fit th� fields on the parcel would be to create nvo smaller and two lazger fields'?
The Forest Lake rlrea Athletic Association represents Colum�us, Linwooci, Forest L,ake
and Lino Lakes. The money their organization raises gaes towards equipment.
Dan �ieger - President of Forest Lake r�rea Athletic Association is w�illing to help w�ith
the project and with raising donadons. He can be contacted at: 78t1-3387,
The consensus of the board was that it wauld be the goal of the cornmittee to eventualty
have the fields lighted.
Michael Navin commented that Park and Rec. is interested in acquiruig donarions in
a '
exchange for playing time or exclusive rights to the fields. It was mentioned that Fete
Des Lacs City Celebration would need to have priority on the appropriate weekend.
This year the city celebration is scheduled for July 25 - 27th.
The Forest Lake Area Athletic Association's season is over on July 10th.
Michael Navin wouid like to invite Anoka County Soil and Water Conservation District
to the public hearing. John Vondelinde (Anoka County Park and Recreation Director)
will be invited to the meeting on the 24th.
Motion by Kevin Fogarty to send a letter to organizations stating that the Park and Rec.
Committee is going to proceed with its plans to develop LaMotte Park. Seconded by
Ricbard Thompson. Motion Carried.
Meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
