I PARK AND RECREATION COMIVIITTEE
� January 6, 1999
Pursuant to do ca11 and notice thereof, th� Park and Recreation Committee of the City of
Centerville held their regularly scheduled meeting on January 6, 1999 at City Hall,
1880 Main Street. Acting Chairperson Dale Larson called the meAting to order at
6:4� p.m.

1im March eYplained Paul Palzer (Public Works DirectorBuilding Official} has received
complaints about rink atiendants ridin� snowmobiles in the park area.
Steve Brown offered he would talk to the attendants and make them aware they are not
allowed to ride their snotivmobiles in the park areas.
UNFINISH�ED BUSINESS
� Ice Rink Scheclule, Reservations and Staff Update / Famil� F'un Night Update
Steve Brown expressed attendance has been very good. He questioned when we should
determine whether to close down the ice rink when whether conditions aren't favorable.
� The Committee decided when the temperature is -10 degrees or below, andlor if the
windchill is -35 degrees or below the attendant should close down the warming house and
ice rink. Steve asked how the Community Skate Night went.
' Jill Lien stated the first Community Skate Night wasn't much of a success. There were
only a few people who showed up. Jill stated we didn't charge anything for the
refreshments because most kids who came didn't have money with them.
Jim March stated public works will clear the ice every Sunday befare the Community
Skate Night. Don Bahnemen mentianed he didn't have any luck with getting music (i.e.:
tuner, speakers etc.). Jill Lien offered that the rink attendants usually have a boom box
inside and that it really isn't necessary to have more than that. The Committee determined
to cancel the next Community Skate Night due to the whether forecast.
�ggested Names tor Acorn Creek and Eagle Pass Parks
The Committee discussed several names for the t�o parks. Some af the names suggested
for Eagle Pass are: Eagle Park, Christmas Park and Evergreen Park The only name
suggested for Acorn Creek Park is Acorn Park. It was decided staff should mention in the
ne�t newsletter a blurb asking input from the community to help in naming the two parks.
C�rants offered b� the DNR
Mr. March spoke of several grants he wants to check int� offered by the DNR. �
Dale Larson expressed he would like to see the Revoir Park be made into a park designed
more for adults, and more family oriented - all of the other parks are for children and
athletes. Adding, he would like to see BBQ pits, horseshoe pits, picnic tables and possibly
a shelter. Dale felt landscaping and benches could be placed along the pond; and offered a
viewing dock would be very nice.

park will be made into a"family" park. The builders are telling people this. Steve also
stressed the residents are getting upset with the amount of kids who are wondering around
and playing on private property to get to the pond.
Jim March stated Randy Hagerty just ordered two (2) picnic tables and a bench from
SCORE Funding. They were $500.00 each.
Steve Brown questioned the grants from the DNR. Jim March offered we could apply for
several of the grants, maybe we will get all of them, maybe we will get one. Dale Larson
asked how much money is in our budget. Jim March explained t�e have $25,000 from
Buechler. Mr. Buechler also offered to donate an ammania compressor from Met Council
2
for the ice rinks to extend the season longer. Steve Brown questioned the shoreline along
Main Street - specifically the two houses the county owns.
Mr. March explained Anoka County owns two of the lots and is in the process of
� purchasing the two other lots. Adding, the City could possibly apply for the grant where
the County would match the funds from the City for park development. Between the
County purchasing the two 1ats, and the City applying for the grant matches, the City
could end up with approximately $400,000.00. The City could then purchase the
remaining lot which has a six-plex on it, bulldoze the six-plex, and build a beautiful park
on the lake with a pier and all the amenities. Jim mentioned he would bring a draft to the
February meeting for the grant applications.
NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Joe Goetz of Goetz Landscaping wants to be the City Forester. He can help pick out
the trees from Eagle Pass to be relocated. Jim will bring this up at the next City Council
meeting.

Seconded by Steve Brown. All in favor. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
