APPEARANCES PETITIONS AND CONIPLAINTS Mr. Dale Larson eXpressed concern over the type of shelter the Neighborhood Ne�work Committee is proposing for the Acorn Creek Park; moreover, if they are proposin� a shelter at a1L Mr. Larsor� w2nted to make sure the Park and Recreation Committee is still intendin� to reeommend some type of shelter. Mr. Larson expressed i�terest in putting in a shelter ai the Tracey McBride Park alsc�. Mr. Terry Sweeney explained he thought t��e �,Teighborhood Network Committee was trying ta go with the "old town" feel or theTne that the Design T�am suggested. This is where the Neighbcrhood Netw�rk Committee came up with the name "gazebo". Mr. Steve Brown expressed he would like to see a shelter lar;e enou�h to hold family � gatherings and picnics. He a1_so mentioned the wi�iole purpase far the Acorn Creek P�rk is � z . geared for farmlies an� adults m a quleter atmosphere. Other parks su.,h as ,�al��otte Fark are geared for more athletic purposes. Mr. Brow*1 also stressed t�at th�r� is approximately 50 feet of shoreline that is ��per for public use. He still has pro�lems with children ��alking throu�h his property as they make their way around the pond. Thes? kids need to understand this is priva�e property, and a lot of the home�wn�r� are �etting upset with the traffic behind their houses at all haurs of the day and night. Mr. Larson stressed ag�in that this park shoul� be able to be used by ali a�es - both young and old. Mr. Larson distributed a letter from � rari Nelson which also requested a park be I desigriate�d for adults, ti.�ith a quieter more peaceful atmos��hPre. ' Mr. S��eeney suggested thv City put in a refaininb watl and goss��y do sc�me landscap:n�, �� maybe even adding trees. The trees w�uld act as a sou��d barrier, and in a sense, separatP the park into two. The play area would be �eparate from the shelter area, givinb it the effect of two different ,�arks. N1r. Mr. Porter questioned where the fur�ds will come from to pay for all of these suggestions. Both Mr. Sv,reeney anc� 1VIr. The �rass needs to be fertilized and weed killer needs to be used. Mr. �weeney su,�gested hiring a sc��ool a�ed person to oversee the upkeeping and mainter.an�e of the parks. Lazer Light Technologies offers fund raisers with Lazer Scribed Bricks. The Park and Recreation Committee briefly laoked over the information and discussed the information. The general consensus of the committee was that the City andlor Park and Recreation Committee is not ready or in ihe need of a fund raiser. Park and Recreation Committee Sponsored Youth Activities Ms. Lien asked the Park and Recreation Committee if they wanted to pursue spansoring events for the children of Centerville. Such events would include: kite flying, track and field, softball tournaments, volleyball tournarrtents, bike racing, etc. The �eneral consensus of the Park and Recreation Committee was that there are so many �''� events offered through Lino Lakes, Centennia� 5choor District and surrount�in� � communities that they �idn't feel the need to offer them through Centerville. Mr. Brown felt it all came down time and money, ac�ding the Park and Recreation Comrr�tttee �� voluntears their time for City issues. Adding, that not many of the members have time to i help with outside events. Mr. Porter felt it would be something to r�o for fun, adding that �� maybe the City could offer prizes. l�Ir. Larson mentioned that in Lino Lakes, not ' evervone volunteers, the City pays for t�teir time. YIr. Sweer�ey clari�ied, only Park and , Recreation are paid in Lino Lakes. Mr. Larson suggested that maybe it is time for the City � of Centerville to consider hiring a Parks �nd Recreation Director. N1r. Src�urrr didn't feel � the City has the need nor the money for that position at this time. DISCUSSIOIV ITEMS Mr. Larson brought attention to the condition of the slide at the Ro_yal 1VFeadows Park. Basically the slide is shot, ard ready �o fall down. It needs to be removed. Also, the swing set is in poor condition. Mr. Larsdn statecl that he had already spoke with Mr. Paul Palzer (Building Official) about purchasing a new sw�ing. Mr. Palzer told Mr. Larson that it would cost the City approximately $400 -$600 to repair the current swirrg. �t wou�d be more beneficial for the City to purchase a new swing. iVIotion by Dale Larson ta have Pt�blic �'or�s remove the slide at Ray�t �ble�dows Park. He felt it would be best if the committee members had an � opportunity to look at tne condition of the swing before they made any motions to remove or purchase new equapment. � Mr. Larson wanted to offer his eommendations to the new ��ity Council.
