MEMORANDUM <br />TO: CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: PATTI S. WALSTAD <br />DATE: JANUARY 5, 2009 <br />SUBJECT: CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK ORDINANCE <br />The Sheriffs Contract Group Communities were advised by Undersheriff <br />Altendorfer at their December 2008 meeting that the BCA has changed their <br />regulations on background checks. The BCA is now requiring that each <br />community adopt a Criminal Background Check Ordinance if they wish to <br />continue to have the Sheriff's Department provide this service. <br />l utilize this service from the Sheriff's Department when renewing the City's <br />tobacco and liquor licenses. <br />A sample ordinance was provided, and 1 have conformed the wording to pertain <br />to Gem Lake. Several other communities including the Township and Little. <br />Canada have already passed this. <br />Requested Action: <br />Adopt Ordinance No. 105 relating to Criminal History Background for Applicants <br />for City Employment and City Licenses, and authorize execution by the Mayor <br />and City Clerk. <br />PSW/s. <br />cc:admin:fle <br />b; BCA <br />
