Management Overview
1. The Benefits:
Managing your native planting will help give the project the best opportunity for long-term
success while fostering essential habitats for songbirds, butterflies, bees, and other pollinators.
Native plantings play a key role in carbon sequestration, storing carbon in their biomass and
roots. They also improve water quality by filtering out pollutants and excess nutrients, aiding in
stormwater purification. Moreover, native landscapes restore soils by promoting biodiversity,
preventing erosion, and enhancing soil structure and nutrient cycling, resulting in healthier,
more resilient ecosystems.

2. After Seeding:
During the establishment period, Prairie Restorations will mow the project area to control the
growth of annual weeds. Mowing will reduce competition and support the growth of prairie
seedlings. Mowing will also be conducted to reduce weed seed spread. The recommended
cutting height is typically between 4 and 6 inches, with clippings finely mulched to prevent
smothering. Native landscapes focus on their root growth the first year, reaching full growth
around 3-5 years of age.

3. Regular Management:
In the years following the establishment period, Prairie Restorations will implement Integrated
Plant Management (IPM) services to control annual, biennial, and perennial weeds within the
developing native landscape. IPM services will include but are not limited to; spot herbicide
spraying, spot mowing, herbicide wicking, or hand weeding. These services are billed on a per-
visit basis, with costs agreed upon prior to the start of the growing season.

4. Prescribed Burn:
Prairie Restorations recommends prescribed burning every 3-5 years to stimulate the growth of
native species and deter the spread of non-native or woody species. Prescribed burning is a
highly effective tool for managing your project site and is scheduled as the project matures. This
service will be provided as a separate lump-sum cost, and is generally conducted during the
spring, when native species are dormant.

5. Dormant Mowing:
In lieu of burning, or in years when burning is not performed, Prairie Restorations will carry out
Spring Dormant Mowing to clear the previous year’s growth and prepare the site for the new
growing season. This will take place early in the spring, as conditions allow. Spring Dormant
Mowing will be provided as a separate lump-sum cost.

Vegetation Management and Project Follow-up:
Zoho Sign Document ID: 2EF40FD4-LOSWGWZZOCX4QYVUCHAFOWSBDSIHNRZYLS8IBVWWKBI
