Maintenance of the Trail <br /> <br />The City of Gem Lake and White Bear Township Public Works oversee maintaining the public <br />trail. To keep the trail clean and enjoyable for all visitors, the following will be implemented: <br /> <br /> Winter Snow Removal of Gem Lake Trail <br />From November 1 through April 1, winter maintenance will be performed on the Gem <br />Lake Trail. Snow Removal will be done on regular workdays (Monday through Friday) as <br />needed. The standard width for general use in less frequently used parks or trails with <br />limited grooming is 6 feet. White Bear Township Public Works will remove snow from <br />the trail from edge to edge. Markers will be placed along the trail to ensure proper snow <br />removal widths. <br /> <br />Summer Mowing of Gem Lake Trail <br />The months of July and September, summer and fall maintenance will be performed on <br />the Gem Lake Trail. Mowing will be done on regular workdays (Monday through <br />Friday). The trail will be mowed out approximately four (4) feet foot from the edge on <br />each side of the trail to remove encroaching vegetation and invasive species. Areas <br />around the signs and benches will also be moved and trimmed at the same time. <br /> <br />Invasive Species <br />From time to time, volunteer efforts will be organized to eliminate cottonwood and <br />willow invasive plants in the trail area. These efforts will be approved in advance by the <br />City Clerk or Mayor. Yard waste resulting will be placed in a designated area and hauled <br />away by the public works department.
