<br />Footprint, Building - The building footprint is the area occupied by the horizontal projection of the building’s first floor, excluding the
<br />floor area of the attached garages and porches and or decks built as allowed encroachments into setbacks.
<br />
<br />Freestanding - Any sign affixed in or upon the ground, supported by one or more structural members, with air space between the ground
<br />and the sign face.
<br />
<br />Fully Reconstructed – Areas where impervious surfaces have been removed down to the underlying soils. Activities such as structure
<br />renovation, mill and overlay projects, and other pavement rehabilitation projects that do not expose the underlying soils ben eath the
<br />structure, pavement, or activity are not considered fully reconstructed. Maintenance activities such as catch basin repair/replacement,
<br />utility repair/replacement, pipe repair/replacement, lighting, and pedestrian ramp improvements are not considered fully reco nstructed.
<br />
<br />Gallery - Continuous, unoccupied cover (such as an awning) over the entrance or entrances to a building.
<br />
<br />Garage - A structure intended for the parking and storage of passenger cars and light-duty trucks. A garage may be attached to a building
<br />or a separate structure, where allowed by Building Type Template.
<br />
<br />Garage, Private - A detached accessory building or portion of the principal building, including a carport which is used primarily for
<br />storing passenger vehicles, trailers or one (1) truck of a rated capacity not in excess of seven thousand (7,000) pounds.
<br />
<br />Grading - Changing the natural or existing topography of the land.
<br />
<br />Greenhouse – A climate-controlled structure enclosed by glass or multiple layers of plastic in which plants are grown that need
<br />protection from cold weather.
<br />
<br />Green Space - An area of real property on a lot which is similar to Open Space, but the general intent is to promote natural areas. Green
<br />Space includes, but is not limited to, wetlands, prairies and grasslands, pastures, forests and wooded areas, mixed forest an d grasslands,
<br />landscaped areas exclusive of impervious surfaces within the landscaped areas, or any other naturally occurring land form.
<br />
<br />Groundwater Recharge - The replenishment of groundwater storage through infiltration of surface runoff into subsurface aquifers.
<br />
<br />Hazardous Materials - Any material, including any substance, waste, or combination thereof, which because of its quantity,
<br />concentration, or physical, chemical, or infectious characteristics may cause, or significantly contribute to, a substantial present or
<br />potential hazard to human health, safety, property, or the environment when improperly treated, stored, transported , disposed
<br />of, or otherwise managed.
<br />
<br />Height, Building - A distance to be measured from the ground level six (6'0") feet from the front door of a structure to the highest point
<br />of the roof, excluding chimneys, weather vanes, cupolas, antennas and the like.
<br />
<br />Hobby Activities - Any activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation and meeting all the following
<br />requirements: when normally engaged in only by the persons residing in the dwelling where the hobby is pursued; when evidence of the
<br />hobby is not visible from the street or if visible is not offensive or such to lower neighborhood property values; when pursui t of the
<br />hobby does not interfere with enjoyment of neighboring property by its owners.
<br />
<br />Home Occupation - A use incidental and secondary to a property’s primary residential use. A home occupation use shall not change
<br />the residential character of the property or the neighborhood, and shall meet all applicable legal requirements. The standard s, permit
<br />procedures, and regulations of home occupations are further defined in Ordinance No. 134.
<br />
<br />Hoophouse - A structure made of PVC piping or other material covered with translucent plastic, constructed in a half -round or hoop
<br />shape.
<br />
<br />Housing, Life Cycle - Housing available for people at all stages of their lives. This housing may be owned or rented single family
<br />detached housing or condominiums and townhouses. Most people when they move from one housing type to another, due to changing
<br />needs and circumstances, want to stay in the same community if possible. Life-cycle housing needs to meet the changing needs of people
<br />as their incomes and circumstances change.
<br />
<br />Hydric Soils - A soil that formed under conditions of saturation, flooding or ponding long enough during the growing season to develop
<br />anaerobic conditions in the upper part.
<br />
<br />Illegal Discharge - Any direct or indirect non-storm water discharge to the storm drain system, except as exempted in Section 29.7 of
<br />the Consolidated Land Use Ordinance.
