Gem Lake contracts for Public Safety
services through the City of White Bear Lake.

Hager highlighted the current size and structure of
the White Bear Lake police force, which now
includes 28 sworn officers. (They are authorized
for 32 officers and are currently recruiting.) This
includes one police chief, 2 captains, 4 sergeants,
17 police officers assigned to patrol, 3
investigators, 3 school resource officers, 5
community resource officers, and 3 administrative
staff. Officers go through a minimum of 12 training
days per year. The department relies heavily on
partnerships and volunteers. For instance, the
White Bear Lake Police Department maintains
partnerships with the Ramsey County SWAT and
Mobile Field Force, the Minnesota Bureau of
Criminal Apprehension, the Minnesota Chiefs of
Police Association, the Northeast Youth and
Family Service Community Advocate Program,
and others. Volunteers also supplement
community outreach, including the White Bear
Lake Police Reserves, the Citizen’s Police
Academy and CERT (Community Emergency
Response Teams).

(Continued on Page 2)

KIA Barnett Begins Major Construction Project

Construction has begun on a stunning new sales
and service building at the KIA Barnett dealership
in Gem Lake. The dealership is located at the
northeast corner of County Road E and Highway
61, where it has been located since the 1960’s. In
fact, the current sales and service building was
built in 1968 and has been due for an update for
many years.

After exploring the options, KIA Barnett decided it
would be more efficient to replace the old building
and start over.

(Continued on Page 3)

Gem Lake News
August 2025 | Volume 19 | Issue 4 Gretchen Artig-Swomley, Newsletter Editor
