Fortunately the calls <br />were received by the fire department <br />shortly after the fire apparently broke out. <br />Family members were away at the time. <br /> <br />Both the homeowners and nearby <br />neighbors were very impressed with the <br />speed of the response to the emergency <br /> <br />(continued page 2) <br />Residence Saved by Fire Department <br />Gem Lake Fish Study Expected to "Reel in" Data <br />A fish survey will be conducted this month of <br />Gem Lake by the Vadnais Lake Area Water <br />Management Organization (VLAWMO). Fish <br />populations and species are great indicators of <br />water quality and can also help identify issues <br />with a lake, according to Stephanie McNamara, <br />Administrator for VLAWMO. <br />"The type, size and number of fish found in any <br />lake can tell a story about how healthy the lake <br />is," said McNamara. She sees this survey as <br />part of a bigger picture that includes cost <br />effective storm water management and <br />measurements of total maximum daily loads of <br />things like phosphorus that are entering a lake. <br />'It all leads to a Sustainable Lake Management <br />Plan for Gem Lake." <br />(continued on page 3) <br /> <br /> <br />
