Included in :this bill is <br />$30.0 million dollars. in public safety aid, distributed to every.city, county, and Tribal nation in <br />Minnesota. I've included the amounts our cities (and..utban township) will receive as well -as our <br />counties. Senate district 36 has nine cities and three counties. Please see the amounts of aid your <br />city/county will receive below. <br />As the chief author of thisbill, this is a project l worked on. for most of the session. I'm proud to: have <br />delivered. o0 nny Oro mise.to you to make publicsafetyia top priority. The money ull be. used for <br />recruitment,. retention, and equipment costs for law enforcement, fire departments, and first <br />responders (for example., an ambulance). For those who :co.ntract with counties for public safety and <br />law enforcement, the money can be. used towards that contract. <br />Local p.olice.a.nd fire departments :will be notified.of the funds as weii. Although these fun ds.:.are <br />intended. for local control, you.are encouraged to consider their suggestions far public safety needs <br />in our communities. <br />Here's a breakdown of uses: <br />is M..oneyto provide public safety, including but not limited to cc) mmunityviol ence. prevention <br />and intervention programs; community engagement, mental hiealth crisis responses; victim <br />services, training programs; first responder wellness, or to pay other personnel or equipment <br />costs. <br />• Proceeds.maynot :be used for employes contributions to the public emp.loy.ees'.poIce and fire <br />fund if the entity received police state: ai.d in the Year immediately prior, or anycosts <br />associated with alleged wrongdoin& or misconduct. <br />• Proceeds may not be used for the. purchase.of an armored or tactical vehicle <br />• Proceeds may not he used for the.purchase of tear gas.,.chemical munitions,. or substantially <br />.similar items. <br />• Proceeds may not be used for construction; reconstruction; remodeling, expansion, or <br />improvement of a police.station, including related facilities. For purposes of th.is.:clause, <br />"related facilities" includes access roads, lighting, sidewalks, and utility components on or <br />adjacent to the property on which the police station. is located that are necessary for safe <br />access to acid use of the building. <br />The commissioner must certify to each entity the.amount to be paid by Aug. 1, 2023, and the full <br />payment must be made by Dec. 26; 2023.. <br />
