VADNAIS HEIGHTS BIKEWAY/TRAILS PLAN <br />May. 5. 1994 <br />L INTRODUCTION <br />The Vadnais Heights. City Council, at its June 4, 1991 meeting created an. Ad -Hoc Committee to evaluate <br />existing trails and to recommend a comprehensive.. bikeway/trail system. As part of this process the. <br />following was taken into consideration: <br />a. existing city bikeway/trails plan and existingtrail/pathways/sidewalks in the City; <br />b. Ramsey County's plans; <br />c. MNIfOT's long range plans in area; <br />d. connection with adjacent communities trails and plans;. <br />e. potential opportunities.with. St. Paul Water Utility or other public land in Vadnais Heights; <br />f. potential connection of destination points, public parks and open spaces; <br />g. the preservation of natural habitat, publicparks, open spaces, .etc.;. <br />h. public safety. <br />The primary purpose of the Bikeway/Trails Plan contained herein is to provide a comprehensive and <br />consolidated document regarding policiesand plans for trails in the City:. of Vadnais Heights. This <br />Bikewayfrrails Plan will provide City Council, commissions, staff and developers with guidelines for <br />achieving a trails system which will serve both destination and leisure oriented users. <br />TRAIL TYPES/OBJECTIVES <br />All of the trails identified herein are for walking and jogging. Most of the trails are also for non -motorized <br />biking and skating. <br />Through a deliberate planning/mapping procedure, thecity of Vadnais Heights will be. able to provide a <br />comprehensive trail system for both destination and leisure purposes. The intent is to provide a system of <br />interconnecting trails that will allow both the recreational user and bicycle commuter to be able to travel <br />throughout the city.
