6.1.4 Jurisdiction <br />Ramsey County currently maintains approximately 3% of the total 5.8 <br />miles ofxoadway within Gem Lake (see Table 10) including.rnostQf <br />the arterial, all of the collector{ and over half of local street mileage, <br />Gem Lake maintains orily0.8 miles (approximately 14 percent).of the <br />total mileage. The remairung roads: are under state .or private - <br />jurisdiction. <br />6.1.5 Public Transit <br />The City is presently served by an MTC bus route encompassing the <br />commercially oriented southeastern corner of. the community {via <br />County Road. a and U.S. Highway 61}. There are no major fixed. <br />transit facilities either existing or planned in Gem Lake. It is the goal <br />-of the City to maintain a "rustic" environment in a.natural. settling. <br />Therefore, residential development will be low density and will.not <br />necessitate substantial increases in bus services. However; :the City <br />may want to explore alternative transit programs. <br />6A.6. Airports <br />There are:no airports, proposed airport.sites,search-areas,.or other <br />related facilities located in. Gem Lake. The City is served. by. the - <br />Minneapolis -St. Paul international .Airport and the. St. Paul <br />Downtown Airport. The airports have no direct impact on the City <br />{, pf Gem Lake, andany development'in.Gem Lake will have no impact <br />the regional aviation system. <br />6.1.7 Roadway Changes <br />Ramsey County has plans to. relocate Otter -`Lake. Road so 'that it <br />connects directly with County Road F.in White Bear sake. <br />Another potential change in the Gem Lake.xoadway system may <br />involve.Schueneman Road at the intersection of U.S. Highway 61 <br />Currently, there is. only-southbound access to.U.S. Highway.61 from <br />the portion of Schueneman Road north of US..Highway .61. In <br />addition, there is only access to northbound Schueneman Road from <br />southbound US. Highway 61. Possible options include putting a <br />cul-de-sac dead-end at the end of the Schueneman Road at U.S. <br />Highway 61, or designating Schueneman Road as one-way going <br />north. <br />6.2 Transportation Policies <br />The following policies **have been established by the municipal <br />government of Gem Lake to enhance the quality of transportation for <br />citizens of the .community: <br />Gem*Lake Supparts,the stridy of an im roved..connection of Otter <br />Lake Road and CouniyRjo�ad_P The.
