Road Maintenance <br />Approximately 2.1 miles of roads are currently maintained <br />under Gem Lake jurisdiction. <br />Policy: <br />The City will continue to contract for road maintenance. <br />Professional Assistance <br />There are no full-time employees of the City of Gem Lake. <br />All professional assistance including lawyers, engineers <br />and planners are paid for on the basis of time and materials. <br />The City contracts with White Bear Township for City <br />Administration and other related services. <br />Policies: <br />Legal, engineering and planning assistance will continue to <br />be on a time and materials basis. The contracting of City <br />Administration services by White Bear Township will be <br />continued. <br />Municipal Building <br />Gem Lake recently constructed and opened a City Hall in <br />January of 2008. This structure is a joint project between <br />the City of Gem Lake and White Bear Township. The <br />facility is expected to provide adequate space for the City <br />for the next 20 or more years. <br />Policy: <br />The City should review space needs every 5 to 10 years to <br />determine if can be met with the current building. There is <br />adequate space on the current site to expand the building if <br />necessary. <br />Public Schools <br />District 524 provides education to Gem Lake residents. <br />Policy: <br />The City will continue to support high quality elementary <br />and secondary public education for residents of Gem Lake. <br />City of Gem Lake Comprehensive Plan I page 11-2 <br />
