GEM LAKE; COUFCIL MEETING, Aug. 20, 1968 <br />Meeting was opened at 8:08 PM by Mayor Henry Hoffman in <br />Hoffman Hall, Village of Gem Lake. <br />Present: Hoffman, Arcand, Bigelow, Ward and Treas. Knutson. <br />Also present: Mrs. Ward, Joe McGinnis, Stanley <br />Ross, Dean Koberick, Robert Cartier and Mr. Harry Lovering. <br />Mr. Lovering was present in response to a letter <br />from ii�son Bemis regarding the lighting for the Chrysler <br />car lot. He stated that it will have 25 candles of lumims <br />at 32 ft. generally but there may be hot spots directly <br />under the light source which may raise this to 30 candles. <br />The lights are adjustable and can be beamed as desired. <br />He requested that this variance from the village ordinance <br />be overlooked. A letter from McDonald of the Cerny engin- <br />eering Co. was read. The mayor said he would arrange a <br />meeting at the earliest possible time with Mr. Bemis and <br />Mr. Lovering to settle this matter. Robert Cartier, Vill- <br />age eplectrical inspector said the difference between 25 <br />and 30 candles would not be readily noticd-ble. <br />After Mr. Lovering left, the minutes of the last meeting <br />were read; motion to approve made by Arcand, seconded by <br />Ward and passed. <br />From the floor: Cartier says Mr. Salverdo is his deputy <br />electrical inspector. <br />Stan Ross reports the course on government <br />will begin Sept. 18 in Vadnais "eights, they need 20 peo- <br />ple and now have 15. Flyers will be sent out. <br />New Business: The acting clerk read a letter to the council <br />from Richard Hanson. He reported that a request from the <br />a Ramsey County Auditor concing the village budget for <br />d(NG �6�"�_• M&"J pold4,-- protection year 1967 was answered by sending him <br />the amount spent that year, a1581.58. He read a letter <br />from the same office requesting that the Village will not <br />apporotre any plans for streets, roadways or driveways ent- <br />ering county roads without having the developer or contract- <br />or submitting plans to the Ramsey County Highway Dept. <br />I'lembership renewals for the League of Municipalities was <br />postponed until the town clerk returns. The x± acting c lerk <br />peported a fire during the month at Mrs. Freeman's which <br />cost the village a two hour fire charge, :.�300.00. <br />Treasurer's Report: There will be about �1900.00 in the <br />bank after bills. The Treasurerx consulted the bookkeeper <br />of Maplewood about correct procedures and obtained copies <br />of forms for the various permits issued which are recommend- <br />ed for proper accounting of money received and for records <br />of permits issued. It was moved by Ward, seconded by Arcand <br />that our treasurerx have appropriate form5made for our use. <br />Elections: polls for Sept. 10 primary to be open OAM-8PM. <br />Date for optional Village of Gem Lake election, Nov. 5. <br />Dean Kob rick reported the residents of Scheuneman Rd. have <br />filed a peltion to the county for a 30-mile zone. <br />Aftuu� q--�s m. <br />
