MINNEAI101.1S,MINN. • 55402 •339-8371 <br />July 16, 1968 <br />Mr, Judson Bemis <br />Chairman of the Planning Commission <br />Village of Gem Lake <br />Minneanol i s; Mi.nne.qota <br />Dear Sir; <br />Monday evening, July 15, 1968, Mr. Macdonald and Mr. Rasmussen of The <br />Cerny Associates, Architects and Engineers visited Tousley Ford located at <br />the intersection of Highway 61 and County Road E, to inspect their exterior <br />lighting facilities. <br />The Tousley Ford lot is devided into two areas display area and storage <br />area. <br />The display area is approximately 20,000 s <br />canopy, and is lighted b 4 0 square feet covered by an open <br />Y Q - 100 watt clear incandescent bare lamps <br />and 16 - 150 watt PAR-38 flood lamps. The quantity of light in this area <br />is calculated to be approximately 32 lumens per square foot and the <br />lighting level was measured to be 20 foot-candles at a height of 316" <br />above the ground. <br />The storage area is approximately 112,000 square feet and is lighted by <br />5 - 400 watt Northern States Power Co, pole mounted mercury vapor fixtures <br />and l - 1000 watt mercury vapor pole mounted floodlight. The quantity of <br />light in this area is calculated to be approximately 1.5 lumens per square <br />foot, and a maximum lighting level reading of 12 .footcandles was taken at <br />the center of the flood light beam pattern. <br />A light reading was also taken at a point 25 feet toward the highway from <br />the boundry of the display canopy and it was found to be 5 footcandles. <br />In order to establish a level of illumination for future car sales, lots <br />which will not be greater than Tousley Ford's, you may want to incorporate <br />the following into the ordinance. <br />1.
