34th Meeting - Page #2.
This "Outline of Zoning Text" gives a very good picture of what
is intended in the "Land use plan".
Dale pointed out that the "Circulation Map" was most important
because it indicated the direction and size of roads that would
be required if this area should develope and be subdivided. He
said it was essential to keep such "circulation i' in mind at all
times to avoid a bodge-podge of roads at some late date. This has
happened all too often and is most uneconomic.
Dale explained the difference between a "BUILDING CODE - which
applies to new construction only " and a "HOUSII@ CODE - which
applies only to existing structures and is used to upgrade the
looks of the area".
In general the Council and the Planning Committee felt that our
Planners had submitted a very fine group of suggestions that
we were moving along well.
Dale stated that at the next meeting he would submit a special
report on the development of the present shopping area in Gem Lake.
Shooping center competition is coming fast and certain recommendations
may be helpful.
The council and the planning committee are to submit any ideas or
suggestions to Dale as soon as they have a chanee to read the
"Guide Plan" anc3 study the "Maps".This should be done in the next
two weekd= T?Pmis thanked Dale and this part of the meeting was
closed.
LAKE AREA PLANNING COM. - Bemis reported that he had been asked at
the last meeting if Gem Lake was interested to annexing any part
of the area north of the Railroad tracks for industrial purposes
or otherwise. It was the opinion of the council that we were not
interested.
Bemis also enquired if Gem Lake was in any way directly interested
in the White Bear Lake Pollution problems.
