CITY OF GEM: LAKE,: RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA <br />ORDINANCE NO. 124 B <br />AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE DISCHARGE OF WEAPONS AND HUNTING <br />ON PROPERTY LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF GEM. LADE, MINNESOTA. THE <br />CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEM LADE ORDAINS: <br />Section 1. Intent and purpose. The City Councit intends to protect the public safety of its citizens <br />by;regulating the use and discharge of certain. weapons on real property in the City of Gem Lake, <br />as permitted.by Minnesota Statutes., § 471.633. The.City Council recognizes that State.law governs <br />all othermatters regarding firearms, including purchase, possession, and rights to carry, The <br />Council also intends that existing: State law relating to the discharge of bows and arrows in <br />Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 97B, and to the purchase:;. possession, carrying or use of other <br />potentially dangerous weapons under Minnesota Statutes, § 609.66 and similar laws, be enforced <br />in the City. <br />Section 2. Definitions. As used in this Ordinance: "Dangerous weapon" has the meaning given <br />.it in Minnesota Statutes, § 609.02, subdivision 6. <br />Section 3. Discharge of Weapons Prohibited. Except: as specifically authorized in Section 4,. <br />the discharge or use of dangerous. weapons is hereby prohibited. Violation of any term.of this <br />Ordinance is a misdemeanor. <br />Section 4. Exceptions. Dangerous weapons may be discharged or used in the City only under the <br />following circumstances: <br />4.1 Perrnits for Archery Deer Hunting. The City Council may issue permits authorizing the <br />use of discharge of a bow and arrow within the City for purposes of deer hunting. Said permit <br />shall be issued.only during.the appropriate game: season for deer, or as deer hunting is otherwise <br />authorized by the State. of Minnesota, Department .of Natural Resources. A deer hunting <br />pennit. shall be issued to the property owner or ❑wners in the case where multiple properties <br />are joined to obtain the 5 acre requirement. <br />4.1.1 A hunting permit.granted under this paragraph shall only authorize the discharge or <br />use of bow and arrow on a specified parcel of property of five (5) acres or larger within the. <br />City of Gem Lake. Multiple properties may join in an application for a hunting permit, <br />provided that the combined. properties are contiguous, combine to be S acres or larger, and <br />will allow for a contiguous safe hunting. area. All owners must join the application if <br />properties are combined. <br />
