Town Life Magazine
PMB 150, 4707 Hwy. 61
White Bear Lake, MN 55110
November 2, 2007
City of Gem Lake
Gem Lake, MN
Re: Gem Lake Report — 2008 Proposal
Dear Sirs and Madam,
I respectfully submit this proposal to write, photograph, graphically design and mail a four-color, one -
page "Gem Lake Report" to all Gem Lake homes and businesses in the coming year. The cost of doing
so will continue to be $1,000 per issue ($6,000 per year), though postage increased 30% in July. I am
trying to keep your cost as low as possible because I think we're a good fit for one another.
Update
This past year has been a transitional time for Gem Lake — and we've hit a few "bumps in the road"
while coordinating the Gem Lake Report. With so many important issues for you to tackle, the
newsletter has, quite frankly, felt like a "hot potato" that city leaders did not have time to address.
Regardless, I have worked hard to make sure it has been as informative, attractive and professional as
possible.
The impressive changes that you've made in 2007 have added to your professionalism as a city and re -
energized the future of your business and development corridors. Partnering with White Bear Township
on Heritage Hall has also been positive for your community. There is no doubt about it — it is an exciting
time to be in Gem Lake. And I'd like to remain a part of it in the coming year.
Town Life
There is a value to being included in Town Life. The Gem Lake Report does much more than serve as a
city newsletter. It showcases the City of Gem Lake to the surrounding communities of White Bear
Township, White Bear Lake, North Oaks, Dellwood, Northeast Maplewood and beyond. Many of Town
Life's readers are decision -makers in the worlds of art, education, commerce and government. Due to
growing up in White Bear and being a local reporter for the past 13 years, I know many of these people
well, and regularly hear that they read my magazine cover -to -cover because they believe it is the finest
publication in the Northeast Metropolitan Area.
Distribution
Town Life is printed six times each year. It's working calendar and two -month coverage of community
news and events gives it a longer "shelf -life" than other publications. The magazine is mailed to 12,500
upscale homes with another 600 copies sold via subscription and retail stores.
Newsletter
In 1999, White Bear Township asked me to create and include its White Bear Township Report within
the magazine. In return I mailed a copy of every issue to all homeowners and businesses in the
community.
Last year the City of Gem Lake made the same request. And I have done the same for you.
The City of Gem Lake and Town Life have a bright future. I hope we can continue to work together on
improving the Gem Lake Report as a communications vehicle and as a means of showing the world that
you're "open and ready for business." It would be a pleasure to serve the city in the coming year. Please
let me know if you'd like to renew your commitment within 30 days of receipt of this proposal.
Thank you for your past support and future consideration.
Very truly yours,
