CITY OF GEM LXKE.. <br />RESOLUTION NO.20b6-15 <br />19 JUNE 2006 <br />A RESOLUTION APPROVING USE OF THE AUTOMAR14 BALLOT <br />MARKING DEVICE 1N THE 2006 STATE PRIMARY AND GENERAL <br />ELECTIONS. TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF GEM LAKE: <br />WHEREAS, Congress enacted the..Help:America Vote Act (HAVA)ia 2002 to ensure thatthe voting method <br />utilized in Avery polling place includes a ballot marking device -that is accessible for .individuals -with: disabilities and <br />provides them the: ability to. vote privately independently; and <br />WHEREAS, the Ramsey County. Board of Commissioners.has adopted the --local equipment plan developed by the <br />cities -and school.districts in-4he County to acquire and operate a ballot matking.device that is accessible:to.persons <br />with disabilities; and <br />WHEREAS, Ramsey County has received a:.state grant in.the. amount.of $1,256;572 to acquire and operate such a <br />balltif marking*ice for disabled voters; and <br />WHEREAS, the.Mionesota secretary of state has certified the Automark"ballot marking device for use. in this state; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the.Ramsey County auditoir has-$uthorized. the use of the. Automark ballot marking device in all <br />elections in Ramsey County; Now, Therefore, Be It <br />AE$91.VED, that the City Catuncil ofthe-City ofGem-Ldke authorizes the use of the Automark ballot marking <br />device for all*elecdonsheld *in the City ofGefti Lake; In accordance with applicable state and federal laws; and -be it <br />further <br />RESOLVED, that the. operation. and maintenance -of the Automark ballot marking device be conducted in the:sarn& <br />mariner pmlvided, for voting systems in the joint powers agreement between.the City of Gem Lake and the County <br />adopted by -the Ramsey County Board of ConmrriW9nersbn,April24, 2001;-and bss itAirther <br />RMLVED, that. the Chy. Clerk. ofthe City otGem.Lakeprovide information oil the use of the Automark ballot <br />marking device to the public during the -sixty (60) days prior to the 2006.state primary -and public demonstrations of <br />said device during; the six (6) weeks:prior*to the 2006 state primary, in accordance with statelaw; and be it further <br />RESOLVED that a copy ofthis resolution be provided to. the.
