We are a small community dedicated to the preservation of our rural environment which includes active participation at every level in the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II Permit Program and the attendant Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP). As part of our participation, we are obligated to advise you that, once residential occupancy permits for homes are issued by the City of Gem Lake, responsibility for all erosion and sediment controls as well as pollution discharge for your property transfer to you. The City of Gem Lake will, on an ongoing basis, be inspecting all property in the City for compliance with these two programs which are integral parts of the Federal Clean Water Act. We encourage you to be proactive in your approach to compliance and contact us regarding your responsibilities. We also invite you to participate in our Annual Community Meeting held in conjunction with the February City Council meeting wherein we discuss how these programs are working, work that has been completed, work remaining and changes that would beneficial to the programs. Again, welcome. We believe the stewardship our community practices will contribute to the improvement of the overall quality of ground and surface water in our region.
