Schwidder, PE <br />DATE: January 18, 2006 <br />RE: 2006 Streets, Gem Lake, Minnesota - Geotechnical Recommendations <br />SEH No. AGEMLK0503.00 14.00 <br />The purpose of this memo is to provide the geotechnical recommendations for the 2006 Street <br />Reconstruction Project in Gem Lake, Minnesota. The memo contains a project description, a description <br />of the geotechnical investigation, existing conditions, recommended pavement section, pavement <br />subgrade preparation, and construction of buried utilities. <br />Project Description <br />This project includes reconstruction of Tessier Road, Haven Lane, Little Fox Lane and Big Fox Lane. <br />We expect that the work will include complete removal of the existing pavement, construction of new <br />utilities beneath the streets, and construction of new pavement. The width of each street is expected to <br />remain the same as the -existing street. Buried utilities will consist of sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and <br />water main. <br />Geotechnical Investigation <br />The geotechnical drilling and laboratory testing was conducted by American Engineering Testing, Inc. of <br />St. Paul, Minnesota. The boring logs and laboratory test results are attached, along with a table showing <br />the boring number, street, elevation, and county coordinates. Please be aware that the borings for the <br />2006 Streets Project were performed at the same time as the borings for the Scheuneman Road <br />Reconstruction. All borings (1 through 10) are enclosed, but only Borings 1 through 7 pertain to the 2006 <br />Streets. Geotechnical recommendations for Scheuneman Road are discussed in a separate memorandum. <br />Borings 1 through 7 were drilled up to a depth of 21 feet on December 2, 2005. <br />Existing Conditions <br />The following Table 1 shows the existing bituminous and aggregate base thicknesses by street, and Table <br />2 shows soil conditions encountered below the pavement. <br />Table 1.
